Is Auli suitable in end September - Places around Badrinath
Hi All,
I'm planning to visit "Badrinath Dham" with my family in last week of September. Two days at Badrinath & then I'll be having three more days - but not clear how to utilise them....
Will Auli be nice in last week of September? Is there any other beauty in and around Badrinath considering the timing?
Please note, my family will include two aged 70+ and two child.
Looking forward for your valuable advise.....
Thanks in advance.....

Auli is famouse for skiing, during September end u'll be wondering how could that place be a place for skiing. People do visit Auli round the year, but it is worth visiting in winters only, and that too when snow covers whole of the auli for skiing. I would suggest u to go to Kedarnath via holicopter, if your pocket allows. Its around Rs. 7000/- per person. from Badrinath, it will take one day to reach Guptakashi and one day for Kedarnath. If that is your itenary, then you can also visit Chopta a very beautiful place. since you have old members I wont suggest u VO flowers, tunganath, Chandrashila. But u can make them stay at Chopta and visit Tunganath & Chandrashila. if u want to visit Chandrashila then reach there before 6 AM. At that time, the weather will be clear and you will be able to see the stunning view of himalayas, Chandrashila is at 3900 mtr. which is higher than Badri and Kedar Dhams.
Thanks Mountaintraveller.
I understand your point hence dropping the idea of Auli. Visiting 'Kedarnath' by helicopter would be too costly for me and trekking to 'Chandrashila' will also be bit problematic considering all the things. (I've to go alone that becomes bit odd when one is with the family).
I'm now planning to make the trip like this : Haridwar to Gangotri ; Gangotri to Kedarnath ; Kedarnath to Haridwar back. I suppose this can be done in 5 days. However, please help me on the following :
1. How is road condition to Gangotri?
2. On the way to Gangotri and back where should I halt - Harsil or Uttarkashi, and, what is accommodation facilities at these two places?
3. Any further valuable advise from all experienced please.
Thanks again to all.......

Hi,Harshil is a beautiful place, you stay there.
Hopefully, the condition of roads to Gangotri should be OK by then, but check before departure. The condition of road in Uttarakashi is in very bad shape.

At that point of time chaeck about the road condition up to Gangotri and then take a call. In case road condition is worst and you are not able to go to Gangotri then while coming back spend some time at Devprayag, Karnaprayag and Rishikesh. You can opt to Go for Neelkanth at Rishikesh.
Please note one thing when you are there in Uttarkashi, please always keep sufficient food/ snacks along with you as road can be blocked any time and you will not find any single source of food in many places.

The road from Uttarkashi to Gangotri is not in good condition and monsoon season is still on, so frequent land slide expected on raod. You have aged person and child with you so better concentrate on Badrinath and do visit Vasundhara falls, it is not a difficult trek.At that point of time chaeck about the road condition up to Gangotri and then take a call. First, thanks to you all for your advises.
Secondly, I apologise to all to have committed a mistake! In my reply post I've mentioned Kedarnath instead of Badrinath - this might have created confusion who so ever has read it ! I've planned actually to visit Gangotri & Badrinath.
Now, coming to the replies....I understand, and if I find road conditions okay, I'll go for Gangotri. If I stay back I'll plan to have a visit to Vasudhara Falls. Could you please let me know two things for this :
1. Is it possible to go and come back in same day from Vasudhara falls?
2. Most probably I'll require a guide. Is it available easily at Badrinath / Mana?
Please advise...
Thanks again.
