Question Kedarnath and Badrinath in first week of October

I am planning to visit Kedarnath and Badrinath in the first week of October (from 4th Oct to 10th Oct). I would like to hear from knowledgable persons regarding the weather conditions during that period. What would be the day and night temp. in kedarnath and badrinath during that period? Is there any chance of experiencing snow? Your valuable inputs are highly appreciated. Thank You all.

Good time to go - hopefully the monsoon will be over completely. But you can and quite likely will get the odd shower. And if you're very very lucky , it might be cold enough for the rain to turn to snow one night.
Other than that - day temps 20-24 C, night temps 10-12 C.

Question

Hi All

I am also planning for a similar trip in the first week of October, 2008 hence found this thread relevant to post my query. Among 4 of us 2 are senior citizens; as of now I made a plan like this to avoid 10-12hours journey in a day:
Day1 Haridwar to GuptKashi
Day2 GuptKashi to Kedarnath (night stay)
Day3 Kedarnath to Chorabari, back to Kedarnath and come down to SonPrayag (is it feasible?)
Day4 Sonprayag to Chamoli/Joshimath (Are transports easily available? How much time it will take?)
Day5 Chamoli/Joshimath to Badrinath, Mana Village (Night stay at Badrinath)
Day6 Badrinath to Srinagar
Day7 Srinagar to Haridwar

Is it easy to get transport from Gaurikund to Sonprayag? Are clean/decent accommodations easily available at Sonprayag? I guess it will take minimum 10hrs from Sonprayag to Badrinath, hence thought of staying somewhere in between, at Chamoli/Joshimath.
Please advice if anywhere there can be any problem in getting accommodation or transport; I have not planned to hire car from Haridwar but may hire from Gaurikund/Sonprayag, if required

Thanks in Advance

I think you guys can plug in a night stay at Chopta between Kedarnath and Badrinath....it will be an experience worth the stay.

Staying in Badrinath and doing some small treks can be interesting

A brief outline of my trip last year is given below:

Hardwar-Sultanpur-Kedarnath
Trek and stay in Kedarnath
Stay in Ukimath
Trek to Deoriyatal
Stay in Chopta
2 days stay in Badrinath
Darshan and Charanpaduka trek
Badrinath-Rudraprayag-Hardwar

Just to give an idea on Cost front for other’s benefit.

Scorpio for 8 days – Rs 13000 (approx)
Pony in Kedarnath –Rs1000
Pittu-Rs500
Per day boarding ,lodging & food(we tried staying in the best places with the kid)-Rs1300
Shatabdi tickets (Del to Hardwar)-Rs350 per ticket

I went with a two yr kid, wife and maid.

Some photographs from the trip is given below:

Thanks for the reply.
Yes initially I too have the plan of staying at Chopta and trek to Tungnath but because of tight schedule I had to drop it; one of us even cant take the risk of taking morning flight from delhi on monday to attend her meeting so we've to come by sunday n thus losing one day.
Hence we had to plan in that way and looking for opinion if anywhere accomodation/transport can be a problem

There is an early morning bus from Gauri Kund to Joshimath via Chopta/Chamoli (a.k.a. the bhukh hartal bus). I think it'll be better if you stay the night in Gauri Kund itself, so that you can get good seats next morning. Other than that you will have problems getting from GK to Joshimath - lots of jeep-hopping involved. There's a GMVN at Gauri Kund where you can stay. Rooms shudn't be a problem, but you can book on the way up to be safe.
It's best if you stay the next night in Joshimath, plenty of accom available at decent prices. You can then get an early start next morning if you like (6.30 am, or 9 am).
