Question hotel Snow Crest in Badrinath - Feedback will be deeply appreciated!!!

Dear IMs

Has any one stayed in the Hotel Snow Crest in Badrinath recently to give me a realistic feedback on their service, facilities and cleanliness? Since i am reaching on November 1, 2012, Portico will be closed.

- Do they have good clean and spacious rooms & bathrooms with geysers
- Do they have electric blanket (the staff has told me they have)
- they are charging a bomb even in the off season

since i have an elderly person so want to be extremely careful about all their comforts in the weather that we are going in!

Looking forward to your feedback. There is no review of this hotel anywhere, so skeptical
many thanks in advance

I haven't stayed in Snow Crest but have seen it come up and visited for trying an alternative. I was not impressed though - I must say compared to Portico. The rooms were small, bathrooms were extremely small and their charges were very high. I would prefer Portico anytime.
If you are going in the lean period then I would recommend GMVN than Snow Crest.

I agree with Vikram on the price factor - however my experience with Narayana palace has not been good especially with the cleanness. Their best room - facing Neelkanth is not kept up. Snow crest being costly is relatively new as well and hence still clean - if you bargain I am hoping they can give some discount. I have done this in the past for a May reservation - it being different that I always stayed at Portico since I believe it is the best kept hotel with no so helpful front office staff .
Interestingly I have been staying in Portico since 2005 and every year I found them to be better than others - even the newer properties are not as good.
However, it's my personal choice and will leave the decision to you.

Hey Amit & Viram thanks soo much for your truly valuable suggestions! I will follow your approach.
The same have been the case with me till last year- i ahve always stayed at Portico. I have been going to Badrinsth since 2003 every alternate year. And since 2005 even i ahve been staying at Portico, undoubtedly the best however this time i am faced with a problem with Portico which has forced to to look for alternatives. When i reach Badrinath October 30, 2012, Protico wold ahve already closed down. They close their operations on October 25th every year. I wish i could have preponed my trip earlier, which i cant.

Having said that, which of the 2 - narayan or snow crest has the best room in their most expensive category. do they also have electric blankets and which do you think will be the most tidy ones...
thanks again buddy! Reallyappreciated your effrot to take out time to help me out.

Also is there a really good hotel in Joshimath... since i ahve always paseed through i am not sure if there is any with a great view

Hey SD - if not already done it might be worth checking with Portico. This year they might be open since it will be almost equivalent to a peak season around your travel dates. Badrinath's kapaat closes after Diwali and usually Diwali is around mid to end of Oct - that's why Portico closes by 26 Oct. However this year Diwali is 13 Nov - so they might be open.
