I am planning to travel to Mussoorie - Dhanaulti - Kanatal - Rishikesh during the Christmas weekend approaching - with family. I will be arriving in Dehradun by Volvo on 24th Dec early morning. I have a return Volvo ticket to Delhi from Rishikesh on 27th evening.

Day 1 (24th Dec): Reach Mussoorie from Dehradun in the morning and local site-seeing in Mussoorie (includes Lal Tibba, Bhatta / Kempty falls). Night stay in Mussoorie.

Day 2 (25th Dec): Day-trip to Dhanaulti and Kanatal including Surkanda Devi trek. Night stay in Mussoorie.

Day 3 (26th Dec): Leave for Rishikesh in the morning. Local site-seeing in Rishikesh for the rest of the day. Night stay in Rishikesh.

Day 4 (27th Dec): Return in the evening.

Now my questions are as follows-
1. Since we are three family members including female, should we hire a private taxi from Dehradun bus stand for the 3 days till we arrive in Rishikesh? Or should I make separate bookings for each day? What will be the charges, in both cases - keeping in mind that end December is a peak tourist season?
Any taxi contact details would be appreciated.

2. Can we expect snow now at any of these points? Or is there any particular point / place where we can see and enjoy snow so that we can include that into our itinerary. Please suggest.

3. Need suggestions on the itinerary of the first two days, specially of Day 2. Can we include some more on the 2nd day trip?

Thanks!

1) Your own vehicle will certainly be the most convenient. You could speak to the Dehradun RS taxi union (search site for tel no.). Ask them for the daily rate based on 200 km/day. You could also contact these people (I have no personal experience, just know they exist):
http://www.dehraduncarrentals.com/

2) There's no guarantee of snow. If it does, you're more likely to find it at Surkanda and Dhanolti.

3) You may find that you enjoy a not hectic schedule as you've planned. You can always stroll a few hours on the Mussoorie Mall Road later.

Thanks Dilliwala!

I talked to the Dehradun Taxi Union and they said that they would charge Rs.2500/- per day including the driver charges. I also called a one or two private taxi operators , but they were charging more.

And one more thing. Could you please suggest some places to visit en route to Rishikesh from Mussoorie for my 3rd day itinerary? Even if I can reach Rishikesh by afternoon, that would be OK.

Need Help for Haridwar-Rishikesh-Mussouri Trip

Dear All,

I along with my husband and 12 year old son are planning to visit the above mentioned places and need your help in planning the itinerary. I have visited Haridwar and Rishikesh, however want to redo it. I have identified the places where we would like to halt and here they go

Haridwar-Rishikesh-Dhanulti-Mussouri-Chakrata-Dehradun.

How many days are required to complete the above points without making it very hectic?

I would also like to add a Pinch of adventure by going for overnight camp.

Plz help

Hi Sudeeptanusree,

Considering you would be staying only at Rishikesh and Mussoorie / Chakrata, 7-8 days should be enough. You can add 1 or 2 more extra number of days if you want to stay and explore other places. There are some good camping options in Dhanaulti as well as Rishikesh.
