Hello travelers and experts,

I along with 2 other friends are planning a trip to Deoriatal>Rohini Bugyal >Chopta/Tungnath >Chandrashila from 24th Dec'16 with 4-5 days in hand, we are first timers and trying to do the trek on our own.

I have collected a lot of information from other threads, however I need help with few matters :
1) Can we hire a guide from Sari for the entire trek, if yes, what are the approx charges?
2) can we do a night camping at tungnath instead of martoli or chopta?
3) what are the chances of us encountering with wild animals during the trek?

Regards
Srikanth

In may this year, one of the shopkeepers at Deoriatal offered to be my guide to Chopta/Tungnath via Rohini bugyal for 1000 which could have been bargained down to 600-700 i guess. I didn't take it though, as i had planned to go by bus. For a group you may be asked 1200 or higher depending upon the season rush.

Night camping can be done, if only you have proper thermal gear, it was cold as hell after 3 PM even in May.

In-case, you still haven't left, avoid Rohini Bugyal at this time of year. It not well-trodden and gets heavy snow (25th has a mild WD expected, and then 29-30 Dec), and is also heavily frequented by bears.

If you still insist, many guides at Sari would be ready. You'd need camping gear, and as already said, it's very cold as it directly faces the cold wind from high mountains at a short distance away.

Hello
I had done this trek on 15th Jan 2017.
My itinerary was as
Day 1 : Jaipur to haridwar by bus ,night travel
Day 2: Did daily routine in dharamshala, there are many which offer room at minimal price ,in my case it was zero.
Took shared jeep from the front of bus stand to rudraprayag at 1 pm around . Reached rudraprayag at around 6 pm .
Booked a simple room for 200 RS,room was OK .Night sleep
Day 3: took a shared jeep UpTo ukhimath at 8 am ,reached around 11 am. Took another taxi to saari village ,it took 100 RS as I was only passenger to saari
Reached saari and then in 1:30 hrs to Deoriya talk, night stay at a hut for 450 RS including food , hut was OK with attach toilet
Day 4: took a guide for 1000 RS ,there I met with different group of 4 person ,we shared the cost of guide.
The trek was from Deoriya -rohini bugyal- Chopta.
There started heavy snowfall as we reached Rohini ,the next half was very adventurous .As we also saw the waste of bear at 2-3 places,as there are many bear in kedarkantha sanctuary.
Started trek at 9:00 am and reached Chopta around 4pm.night stay at Chopta for 350 per room. Very very good room.
Day 5 :woke up at 7 am ,the other group descended down as they were very tired .The last whole night it snowed continuously, as was also going on at that time , the hotel owner warned me not to go to tungnath as it may be risky .
But I was determined asked guide ,he ask 500 RS ,I agreed.
Started trek at 9 am went to tungnath ,did not go to chandrashila ,as at tungnath snow was knee deep. Retuned back to Chopta at 1 pm .And descended baniyakund UpTo saari reached there at 4 pm. Took a shared taxi to ukhimath then to rudraprayag ,night stay .
Day6: early morning to haridwar and then to hometown.

Important points:
1 There are plenty of option for staying at Deoriya taal.
2 you don't need a guide from Deoriya to Chopta to tungnath , as the path is well trodden, but if there is fresh snow then you might need one .
Thank you

Hi,
I want to trek from Deoriya Taal to Chopta with my wife who is not a regular trekker, but I trek a lot. How is the route? Is it very tough or regular? Is there any risk factor?
You stated that you stay at a hut with attached bath. Will you share some information and picture of that hut?

Thanks in advance.

Hello.
Route from Deoriya taal to Chopta is 14 km ,first 10 km are easy up and down and last 2-3 km is little bit slope but not much tough.
There is no risk as there are regular signs indicating the path .
At Deoriya taal I stayed in hut with attach toilet ,not much clean , I don't remember the name but you will find it as it is first or second one in the path.

Thanks Shahank for your inputs.
Will you tell me is the trek route end right at the chopta or much before the chopta on Ukhimath-Chopta road?
Any recommended staying option in Chopta?

I think it end 1.5 km before Chopta on Chopta -chamoli-ukhimath road.
In Chopta there are ample places to stay

Perhaps, there are two routes.
The one I am aware of ends at the bugyal (I forgot the name) 1 km ahead of Chopta on Tungnath trail. On map, this bugyal and the point you mention seem quiet close to each other.

Hello,

I completed this trek in February a months ago. I suggest you stay either at Kund or Ukhimath and make it the base.

Day 1 - Kund or Ukhimath to Saari Village which is the base for Deoriyatal. Trek to Deoriatal from Sari Village is just 3 kms one way. So you can do this on first day. Back to your Kund or Ukhimath hotel.

Day 2 - Start from your hotel in Kund or Ukhimath to Chopta village early morning. Then trek to Tunganath and possibly Chandrashila. Return back to Chopta the same day, then back to your hotel in Ukhimath or Kund.

Ukhimath and Kund are small villages located near to each other.

Alternate option is to trek from Deoriyatal to Tunganath but that is via Rohini Bugyal - This is around 15 kms and should take an entire day. I think you need to take permissions to traverse through Rohini Bugyal.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
Today I called Lakpat Singhji enquiring about Deoriya Taal staying option and Trekking part. He told me it was easy trek and require one Guide. But he didn't mention me about any permission. I think it can be without advance permission.

Is Hotel Neelkantha is ok for family stay? Or should I go for their Camp before Chopta? Any decent accommodation in Tunganath? As I want to stay at night to visit Chandrashila before sunrise. Anyone please suggest some accommodation option in Chopta.
