Hi raima,

Best is to take an overnight train to Haridwar and then a bus - direct bus available early morning. If you can only leave in the day, then take the early morning Shatabdi to Haridwar. It will then take the rest of the day to get to Uttarkashi, though.

Why not cabs? I went from Rishikesh to Uttarkashi by shared cab, it had cost 150 Rs. per passenger. It is more comfortable to go by cab, because by that kind of road it may be hard to go by bus.

The share-taxis tend to pack in 50% more than what's allowed! But I agree they are also an option.

Well can I ask you why on a long weekend are you planning to go to Uttarkashi, I have passed the place number of times and stayed in Uttarkashi atleast 3-4 times but have used it only as a transit point. Other than a few treks that are around Uttarkashi I havent seen anything intersting - may be I am missing something.
