It is strange to note that Interpol could not trace the telephone details. If the service provider is contacted by the relatives/police, they are bound to provide at least the numbers to which calls were made from this number and calls were made to this number from which numbers. They are required to maintain the details in their system. Purpose remains to avoid any billing dispute. But here it would help to trace the contacts of J, I believe!

Prakaant, I think "failed to produce" here means not that they couldn't, but that there was nothing there, after that last call.

I.e., apparently that Feb. 3rd call was the last call made on that phone.

It has already been said earlier that his previous telephoning and on that telephone is known and has been tracked and studied. By e.g. Interpol and the likes, indeed. It was probably said so in the post you were quoting.

David, Lynda,

I've lost track of this, but: Are you very sure this woman whom ostensibly Jonathan spoke to some two weeks (?) after his disappearance and talking about Shantaram -- may she not have confused the occasion for someone else?

I'm only asking because it introduces this large and inexplicable gap. Take that away, and you're basically back to where you left off. That's not helping I know, but it could take away a lot of speculation. And perhaps help you back to the real last starting point. (What Snifferdog calls the Point Of Last Seen, or PLS.)

Interpol works with national police institutions exclusively.

Delhi-Kasol-tosh-delhi from 11-17 April, 2012

Kullu/Parvati early april

I'm sure if a few of us started doing this we could have posters all over India in no time at all, we have great resouces here to get this done & it would be a shame not to take advantage of them.
I'm concentrating on Himalayan threads in HP & Uttarakhand,if any other members are willing to do this in other forums such as Goa , R'stan etc please say so then we know someone is dealing with threads for those area's. KK

I'm surprised we didn't get much response from other members regarding the above idea, but i batted on with it any way & have had some positive responses from members saying they will display posters on their travels, so it seems to work;

Here's a few examples;
Chopta route info

Escape to Kumaon

Delhi-Kasol-tosh-delhi from 11-17 April, 2012

I know some of you may be thinking what's the point it's unlikely he's made it all the way to Goa, Kerala or Gujerat etc without any money, but the point is there could be other travellers in these area's who saw or met/spoke with J earlier on in their travels around Rishikesh/Delhi or elsewhere.So if you feel you are knowledgable about or live in a certain area & are willing to monitor posts for that area & notify other IMers who are saying they will be travelling there shortly,please speak up so we know that area is covered. He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

This has crossed my mind too, Mach. But here's what David said in his detailed timeline post:

He told her he was a writer and that he was coming from somewhere he didn't like.
David has described other 'sightings' as suspected or unconfirmed so I think we have to take it that this lady Lauren did recall enough of the conversation to confirm that it was indeed Jonathan.

Actually, I just changed my signature:

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India...

Even though logistics suggest otherwise, he could be anywhere, but, more likely, the person with a clue could now be anywhere.

The signature thing is a great idea, I just want to see if there's a way to get a photo into the signature, so I need to upload one here to get the url.

Signature graphics are a feature with vbulletin. I believe that it was disabled on this site due to spamming concerns.

It's not working, can't seem to get the photo into the signature, anyone know a way?

Another idea, I'd be happy to put Jonathan's photo as my Avatar so it would appear on every post, but only with the permission of his relatives, I'm thinking that some people may only come to indiamike for train info, and maybe they had spoken to Jonathan, maybe others come for trekking info, and an indiamiker who mainly visits the trekking forums could do the same, or the Yoga/spirituality forum.

Steve, it is a good idea, but let's see what David and Lynda feel about it.

Another option, which some people did on facebook, would be to use one of our posters as avatar. I'm sure the family would be happy about that. OK the poster would be too small to read but coupled with the signature it would attract more attention.

Fascinating/enlightening - especially for those of us who've never been to an ashram & do not know of all the exercises that take place at these institutions.

Once again, they won't go after you. But as you would behave with anyone who is considered unpredictable it is sensical to keep your distance from them while they are not ... behaving like a regular human.

You would see things you never thought were doable. People making noises like real animals, you would not believe it was a human making that noice. Then there were the jumpers. I never witnessed those but I was told they would be sitting cross legged and suddenly would jump as high as one or one and a half meters.

One day, I was on the roof of one of the 3 story buildings of the section for foreigners in the Ashram, lost in the horizon admiring an Eastern sun set. Suddenly something caught my eye. Not too far away, on a roof too, of what seemed like a 3 story builting -at least it was a two story building of that I am positive- there was a tall and skinny guy making strange movements. It seemed like some kind of primitive dance, the movements were not gracious at all, they were fast and sudden, with straight arms and rapid movements of the head. He was also jumping up and down, abruptly turning his head and then continuing to dance. I was in the middle of dozens of inner questions wondering what he... oh! f***!! He is commiting suicide!!! OMG he just jumped off the roof!!! OMG I have to tell som..... Uh?? He just landed and jumped up again so high he almost reached the roof again??!! and then landed on the ground and ... jumped again??
