That's hilarious (& definitely not uncommon in those parts)! It's always nice/therapeutic to have a laugh..... regardless of any given situation's seriousness level.

WOw! With so many Israelis here, is there a website in Ivrit where it could be posted, for Israelis heading to India? Cheers, David

There's been lots of work & concentration on Rishikesh/Haridwar & Dharamsala area,but if Jonathon was last seen in Haridwar he could have been heading in any direction;
Back to Delhi?
To Dharamsala?
To Kullu/Parvati valleys?
To Nepal before his visa expires?
etc etc.

So it might make sense to cover larger area's,no mentions been made about distribution of posters in Delhi & i think it's crucial to have posters spread around Paharganj area, since so many travellers use this has a base & often return there from all areas of India, if any IMers are in that area who could spread a few leaflets in popular traveller haunts such as Madan cafe Metropolis restaurant Hare Krishna GH etc please respond.

We have such a large community here on IM we could cover the whole of India with posters in a couple of days!!

It would also be a good idea to get some spread around Kathmandu & Pokhara if anyone can help?KK
Have you done enough?
Well, let me see...you've got posters printed, you've put them up all over Uttarakhand and Himchal provinces, you've informed Lynda and I anytime you hear, see or think of anything, you've provided superb contacts and ground information and most importantly of all, you give us hope and encouragement when things get really hard. Short of bringing me a steak (rare) with beer and an extra large peanut Yorkie, I'd say you're doing a fantastic job.

KK, you're right. It would be great to have those posters in Paharganj and other tourist centres. Even if Jonathan was never there, there could be others who met him somewhere and recognise the photo.

David, you said Jonathan went to Haridwar. Do you know did he depart Rishikesh for Haridwar or go for the day? Maybe to do something like organise a trek as you said or book a train ticket (?)

Lynda, in the Irish Times article you say that Jonathan had been planning to go to Delhi to meet a friend but changed his mind. Are you in touch with this friend? S/he could have clues for us.

Hi JF, probably a good time to update you on everything. Jonathan was in Haridwar on 2.2.12, the day before he disappeared. I don't know if he stayed overnight there on 1.1.12, but he definitely stayed in the Dharm Yatri guest house in Laxman Jhula, on 2.2.12.
Thanks to KK, I met Karl who was there on the same night (but didn't see him). Great guy, though.
Since I last wrote, Lynda has been co-ordinating tons of media people, so that the case has been reported world wide. I have also been contacted by journalists from India to discuss the story and it will be covered by the Times of India and the Hindustan Times at the end of this week or early next week. We also got a local project manager to organise a press release for Hindi media. Pretty good going considering the Indian media are full of election stuff at the moment.
We have one possible sighting of Jonathan in the Joshimiat area around 12th February. If there are any of you guys out there or heading there, please keep an eye out. I need to confirm this as it is fresh and we are not getting our hopes up. There is another, more recent possible sighting around Nyaneth, which I believe is nearby - again, to be confirmed. The latter sighting said he was with two other people. These are tenuous leads, and recent experience with that pond-dweller from Dharmsala has taught me to tread carefully, so I will get my police contacts to follow these up.
As you guys know, disappearing for a month or two is not uncommon over here, so we are feeling really positive. There have been no adverse reports so far and people on the ground here have been amazing.
I have extended my leave from work for another week, as next week could provide us with a lot of valuable information, once the Indian media go to town with it.
Keep up the fantastic work - we'd be lost without you!

Even for a remote trek or an ashram trip one has to start from somewhere decently populated.
Thanks for that - I met the chief of Police yesterday, but didn't think to ask him. I will text him now.

I echo that, David and Lynda. Thanks for keeping us informed.

You mentioned Joshimath and Nyaneth (? - I've never heard of this place, can someone who knows the area confirm this is the right spelling?). I wonder does anyone have contacts in these places to get posters up.

David and Lynda, do you know if the embassy/police have checked all hospitals in the area?

Edit: Other prime possibility Santoshpuri is also negative. The guy had seen the pic from my email and was sure- about the name too.

From another ashram, got a lead about a long silent retreat near Almora. Have emailed them too.
Thanks Capt, I went to Phool Chatti too. No beer there either

Are there any posters out in Joshimath? And surely the police chief can help tracking down the sightings?
