I am currently in Kovalam, Kerala and will be keeping my eyes peeled for him. And I will be back in Madurai around 25th February for a couple of days. If I see anyone that resembles Jonathan, I will be sure to approach them and report back. Fingers crossed.
Thank you Rivercity, that would be great - a photograph would be the absolute best as this makes it so simple to rule someone in or out. It saves hours / days of investigation and wondering is it him? is it not?

The ideal procedure if anyone thinks they see Jon is to :
'Click' (take a picture),
'Call' (one of the numbers on the poster)
'Chat' (talk to him, see if he seems OK)

Make a mental note - is he with other people, has he a bag / other with him - anything at all.

Every tiny detail can provide an essential clue.

Thank you, Lynda

Was he Indian, the informant? The reason I ask is that I've never managed to escape the ubiquitous 'Where are you from?" question from an Indian. I must have answered it a zillion times - it's hard to lie to them too - they wait for the right moment, look you straight in the eyes, and then let you have it with both barrels..... Which country you from?

Have you seen Jonathan Spollen

Hi. Firstly, if Jonathan was wearing orange and carrying a little bag, then he is living as a Sadhu. Most likely, he would either go for the cheaper places to stay, or at Ashrams. It is cold in N. India right now, so traveling around S. India is smart. Going to Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) on the coast, is not the most spiritual place, more for tourists, but there are quiet places to sit and meditate. He could be going in any direction from there: south to Pondy and points south and north to places in TN, Andhra, Orissa or even (bbbrrrrr cold) the Maha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad. People are nice and he will get fed. I hope you find him. Yes, it is very easy to get into an "India style" as it is very "Bhakta" (Devotional) in India. I have lived here over 20 years, north and south. Best of luck. If I do see him in my travels, I will ask him to "Phone Home JS"!!!!

Tha animal shelter in Tiru is not a good place to ask, nor do people go there unless they have sick animals or find animals. Better is Ramana Supermarket, Ramana Ashram, Sri Siva Sakthi Ammaiyar Ashram, and various people giving Satsang. People in Tiruvannamalai are now becoming aware of Jonathan, as it is posted in Tiru Community on Facebook. I will also keep my eyes open. I live in Tiru 13 years. I will be traveling north for the Maha Kumb and then Rishikesh and Haridwar. Will keep eyes open.

Thinking of you both today D&L. I know it will be a difficult day for both of you being 1yr since J's last phonecall to Lynda,hope you can both stay positive & keep your peckers up! Try to focus on the sighting of Jon on the bus which must be the most positive news for you both this year,so although you will both be feeling down today things are looking up compared to a few weeks back.
Love & Blessings! KK

Me too. I really hope it was Jonathan on that bus and that his journey will lead him to realize that he should give you a sign of life.

I am really shocked to hear about this.

Been browsing for a week or so and this is the first time I came to know about Jon. Need more awareness in the Chennai Forum.

I will definitely look out for Jon if I come across or hear about him until I leave India.

Wonder how reliable was the source of information that he was spotted in TN. I hope it is a reliable source or else this would be a distraction.

Sounds like the dress of a baba, a spiritual wanderer. It's the time of Kumbh Mela, specifically in Allahabad, and lots of babas hang out there. It's not near Chennai however. Where are photos of Jonathan posted? Have you had anyone sketch up a picture of him that resembles the descriptions you have received? I can send it to friends in the area.

There are more photos of him on Facebook at these links:

(Most if not all of these have been posted earlier in this thread but for people coming to it new it could be useful to see them at a glance on FB)

L&D it might be a good idea to contact the owners of websites like these who held satsangs (spiritual meetings) in Tiruvannamalai in Dec Jan & ask them to forward posters to any followers on their mailing list or even display it on their websites;

Also contact Richard Clarke & ask him to help or display on his website;

Also, this may seem obvious, but have posters been put up at major airports and train station departure halls?

I'd imagine every single backpacker and tourist leaves via a major airport and Jonathan's picture could really jog someones memory if they saw his picture just before departing.

You may need special permission but emailing Delhi, Dabolim, Chenni, Kolkatta, Bangalore etc airports might be a good idea.

Sorry if already actioned/suggested.

Lynda and David,

I have been following this story from the beginning, but I'm sorry that I have been unable to help. The new sighting is excellent news and although this is probably nothing you haven't already been told by the lovely members in here, I have a few thoughts that I don't know if they could be a little use.

This time last year I was living in Delhi and working across Rajasthan and Haryana. By the time I'd been there for 6 months I was going loopy and one day I shoved some stuff in a bag and flew to Chennai simply for a break from north India, which I'm sure you know can be very intense at times. I wonder if there is a chance that Jonathon has headed south for a change of scenery? If he chose the life of a sadhu to renounce his previous life, then could it be posssible he is now reconsidering, looking at a different path? Has he moved south until the cold spell clears? If all his wordly possesions were in the bag mentioned, I would consider this a possibility. Could he have gone to Kanchipuram? Rameshwaram would also be a likely target for someone following a spiritual path. I found that temples in both were more than willing to let me sit in the grounds and gather my thoughts for hours without disturbing.

I would think Goa/ Pondicherry unlikely destinations for someone wandering as a sadhu, both tend to be more famillar with tourists and therefore passport/visa checking and in saffron robes, a foreigner would stand out like a sore thumb. In my opinion, there is also nothing remotely holy about Goa, but that is down to unfortunate experiences.

I wish you every blessing in your search and pray that you will receive more positive news very soon.

I am off for seven weeks in north India, tomorrow. I will keep an eye open for Jonathan. The photos of his face are firmly planted in my mind's eye because I have been following this thread since it started. I will also put up posters, if there are none. It's not much, but all I have to offer.

Blessings and prayers to Lynda and David.
