I've sent a PM to a few Tamil members who I could think of - I think they haven't been online today unfortunately - but it is getting late now and I think the best we can hope for is that someone will be able to do it tomorrow. It's very disappointing.

Lynda, I notice there are small differences between the Hindi and English posters. Do you need the Hindi text to be added to or changed at all? The new phone number (Mark) isn't on the Hindi poster - would you like it to appear on the Tamil poster? Do you want the Rishikesh Police number to appear on the Tamil poster? What are they going to do if they get a call from a Tamil-speaking person? I guess they would get by with English.
Yes, they are a little different - it was easier for me to 'tweak' the English version to give Jonathan a jolt / strong message if he was in a situation where he could see it. At the moment these are the numbers we must use and have used for the posters at Kumbh Mela which have a yellow background and are laminated. The white version is to save on printing ink for those kind enough to print some off for us!

As soon as I have a number for a Tamil speaker I will update. In the meantime Mr. Kundan who is in charge of Jonathan's case in Rishikesh has been a huge support to us and I know that if anyone phones with information about Jonathan he will find a way of communicating with them!

Yes, apologies for not delivering. I should have remembered what I used to tell my managers: "If you promise I'll do something without consulting me first, it's your promise and your problem." I didn't consult first. But I'm fairly sure something else is happening.

I have asked a friend who is a member of a group who edits the Internet Tamil magazine 'Solvanam' to translate the poster and he has sent me an .rtf file with the translated form. Please contact me privately and I can send on the Tamil version, or, if you have problems decoding it from Unicode, you can work with him directly to get the text.

Good luck

Karina, maybe you could send it to findspollen@gmail.com and lyndaspollen@gmail.com and then hopefully Saidhbh will be able to work with it.

I should be able to do it this evening if no one else takes it up before that.

PLEASE will anybody who reads Tamil tell us if it reads OK. (this poster)

Lynda, if you are happy with this Tamil poster I will put all the new posters, English, Hindi and Tamil in the first post of this thread and will delete the old ones.
I don't know Tamil JuliaF but this looks fantastic to me! It is a lovely script isn't it? Thank you to RWeHavingFunYet, Jaf, Karina M and to everyone who has been working on this - a typical IndiaMike team effort.

Would it be OK if we were to use this for our Facebook page, Website etc.? I perfectly understand if thats not possible but had to ask!

Concerning the possible sighting, which we are still very hopeful about, we are using all the information and advice you are posting to ensure that our search in Tamil Nadu is as efficient and focused as possible. We are making contacts and believe we will have good support from the people of the south who have been very knid. At the moment putting up lots of posters in both Tamil and English is the most important thing.

Now that we have the Tamil poster I wonder could I ask as many people as possible in the areas mentioned (Thiruvannamalai, Mamallapuram, Chennai) to print a few (even one would be greatly appreciated) off and post them in the high visability locations, as it will take us some days to have them printed and ditributed in quantity.

I am now wondering if perhaps he was just making a bus connection at Thiruvannamalai? If so where might his journey have started? Someone suggested Goa? Has anyone any thoughts on this?

As always, sincere thanks. Lynda

It started in Rishikesh - and may well return there; in which case this could be a Yatra, pilgrimage if you like, or circumambulation of India, though clearly it is not on foot... and this is not unusual for a novice, to visit the great sites of Vedic heritage in the South, e.g. Rameswaram, Madurai, Sringeri, Kanchipuram.

Maybe there's no fixed location at present, if there were it suggests some sort of settling down, though at Rishikesh he could have met up with a Southern based sampradaya /tradition, and found a welcome there.

Thankyou very much Jaf, Karina and RWe for your work on the Tamil poster. I have put the final version in the first post of the thread along with the latest English version from Saidhbh. I have deleted the previous versions.

So now everyone please share these posters as widely as possible and if anybody is in South India especially Tamil Nadu please print them out and display them.

Posters are in the first post of the thread.

My thoughts are that it is very likely that he had been staying in Tiru. If it had been another normal town I would have said yeah, could have just been a bus connection but Tiru is a spiritual centre with a well known ashram. Given his clothing and the conversation on the bus which was ONLY about spiritual stuff - I'd say he had been in Tiru.

About Goa - I'd say unlikely. I've never been there but I'd say a foreigner in saffron robes would stand out a mile, and I would also guess it wouldn't be so easy there for a foreigner with no visa.

Just wanted to add, in view of the lengthy early discussions regarding a spiritually purposed disappearance; that it's fairly obvious that the person in the bus was sadhu-like, which is helpful as one could now look again down that path with greater certainty.

There are pointers to be gained from the appearance and if the individual who reported this had any more clues whatsoever, though seemingly insignificant to that person, it could be extremely useful in possibly connecting some dots.

E.g. – what cloths, kurta/pyjama/ or lunghi/ non-stitched cloth. Wearing beads or not, if so what type, most Indians would well know the difference between Tulsi or Rudraksha beads. This sort of detail can narrow things down greatly. Were there any marks (tilak) or sandal paste streaks on the forehead or upper arms? There may have been no body embellishments, which might suggest that the person has not been initiated and is ‘touring’ to find out if he is cut out for the role of renunciation, after all 10/12 months is barely enough time for such a thing. The wandering may fit the profile of a wannabe and that journey could well return North, to Rishikesh and the Himalayas, as it is not at all uncommon for baba’s to go south in winter, and return North around Holi.

Hi...

I personally feel, we should even consider trying the Television Sources like Times Now, NDTV, IBN etc and regional Tamil channels like Sun, Jaya, Adithya, Star Vijay etc. While I do not know the method of approach, but I definitely feel it might give some results. Also a Facebook campaign might help.

Regards

Prasanna

Lynda/others,

Is there any information about what the man who possibly sighted him and Jonathan spoke about on the bus? Was it purely in English or were there smatterings of other languages (clues to where he has been/is going, what he has been doing). What did they talk about? Matters of only a spiritual nature, practical stuff like how to get to somewhere... These things might give further pointers.

Their conversation spanning 3 - 4 hours was purely spiritual and in English only. Nothing practical and no reference to anthing personal (his past, name, family, health anything at all) it was almost as if these things didn'e exist or certainly weren't relevant. Perhaps the trance-ike appearance would explain this. Lynda
