The Kumbh's organization seems to be a big mess... lol
There's no registration process and the people flocking there are not "managed"... it's India... lol Most of pilgrims will stay in organized tents or camp outside on their own.

But...
- The Rainbow family has a settlement, with tents, where many westerners will gather.
- The Allahabad train station and the bus station could be good places for hanging streamers, as well as train bridges over the road between the city center and the Sangam (the place where the Kumbh takes place, which is about 5 km from the station and city center). - - Flyers could be stuck in the rickskshaws.
- They are ashrams around in Allahabad where many pilgrims will stay.
- Just before arriving at the Sangam, there's a road where a high percentage of the pilgrims will walk, with food and small stalls, Ganesh temple, etc.
- Many saduhs have tents for their followers.
- etc.

If you want to have a quick look on Allahabad and the Sangam:
Some information about Allahabad (in French, sorry...)

Lynda, there are several Indiamike members who are planning to attend the Kumbh Mela next year and several who have experience from previous years. We have a long thread about it here in Indiamike. (http://www.indiamike.com/india/uttar...habad-t154899/). I have copied your question there and asked anyone who has any advice to come and post it here.

If this gathering is probably too big to search for one single person, this is definitely the best place to spread the information with posters, flyers and streamers.
Wonderful suggestion , though I never bought the idea of him being singing bhajans in some ashram.
But definelty a place and time where some awareness can be created about J.
Bike rides - Kashmir to Leh and Sikkim, Jungle safaris - Corbett,Chikhaldara, Kanha and Gorumara. Traveled through MP, Himachal, J&K, Maharashtra, W.Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Goa, Karnataka, AP . . . Yet feel so New to traveling in India.

There will be millions passing through the railway station & bus/rickshaw stands, so placing posters there would be a good start. KK
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread: http://www.indiamike.com/india/uttar...012-a-t159252/

Even if he's not singing bhajans, maybe someone who met him will recognize him seeing his poster and can add some parts to the puzzle.

Please try contacting Krzysztof Jackowski. I know someone personally who received genuine help from him.
Here's his site http://krzysztof-jackowski.info/
It's in polish but try using google translate to get the gist.
I hope you find Johnatan soon.

The Huffington Post ran an article on Jonathan 8 weeks ago - I just found it while doing a google search & don't think it's been posted as of yet. This thread got some (l)ink as well .......

This will be the only help I can provide in this respect along with a small radio controlled flying device equipped with 4 rotating cameras, used to search in impossible to ?
I was wondering if Silviup is still planning to visit India in January and if this flying machine is still an option?

Thanks

I'm not convinced that aerial photography, especially within Holy Sites, is permitted in India. Certainly some kind of clearances/permissions would be needed from the Defense and civil aviation ministry et al?

Spot on PeakXV, I agree that some permission might be required, especially bringing it into the county, customs might have something to say about it. The Waterfall is well and truely in the bush so to speak and away from sacred structures.

A long awaited update!

UPDATE

We're delighted to let you all know that we have had a very promising possible sighting of Jonathan on the 13th of January this year. The sighting was on a bus from Thiruvannamalai to Chennai, in Southern India. During this bus journey Jonathan spoke to the person who contacted us for 3-4 hours. He said he was travelling to Mamallapuram, a coastal town near Chennai, via a connecting bus from Chengalpet.

After 10 months this is obviously very exciting news!
We are very hopeful that this was in fact Jonathan and we now need to refocus our search to this area but unfortunately we have absolutely no knowledge or experience of searching in Southern India, it is completely new to us.

Yet again we would so appreciate your help and expertise to start our search in this region, where we have no contacts or any starting point.

Here is the description we have received from the sighting:
Very thin, with long hair, in slightly shabby saffron clothing and carrying a small brown bag on his shoulder.

What we need to find:

1. Where he could have stayed / be staying?
- any lists of hostels, ashrams, and other places that a person with no papers could stay.

2. Where he could be going?
- any pilgrim routes that include this area or any spiritual festivals that he could be attending.

3. Does the description of his appearance or clothing have any special significance?
- could this link him to any specific group and where would like minded people be found?

4. We are currently updating the poster in both Hindi and English, can anyone advise us if Tamil would also be the most suitable language to focus on for this area? What would the most widely understood language be?

We would appreciate if the moderators could please advise us about the best way of sharing this and future posts with indiamikers staying in or travelling to this region.

As always we are relying on Indiamike for best advice which is vital to a successful outcome in our search for Jonathan. I just need to know my son is alive and well, with your help I am confident that I will get confirmation of this.

Lynda
