Hi,

I wanted to stay long term (6 to 9 months) in the hills region (Ukhimath, Chamoli, Harshil, etc). I am just looking for some solitude. Can you experts please help with zeroing on location? Also, any help in finding cheap accommodation (Ashram, dharamshala, homestay in village, etc..). Please do respond

I am currently in Haridwar & will soon move to some ashram in Rishikesh.

Appreciate your help

Regards

Sachin

What is cheap accommodation, I mean you must have some sort of budget, then money for rations and so on.

Harsil would be difficult to stay over winter, damn cold, windy, damp....so how do you heat yourself and the room? Solitude it would be but can you handle it? Probably more pragmatic to come down a couple of thousand feet or so... from now until next yatra season it's quiet in the hills anyhow.

Thanks for your response PF

I have no clue about the region so your inputs really help. I am striking out Harsil from the list then.. Any place you could recommend would be helpful

Regarding budget, think I cannot afford to spend more then 8K per month give or take some. You think it's doable?

I was thinking of staying in some ashram but, don't know if there are any ashrams around who would let stay that long & also about the economics. Any pointers?

Is there possibility of pitching tent anywhere close to civilization? Worth it?

Help me guys, need to move to Himalayas before winter

BR

You can try Mondal (13 km from Gopeswar) Bhagat Singh Lodge.
