Gangotri Permit/ Spiti questions
Gangotri Permit/ Spiti questions
Hi guys!
I am planning a trip to India in August September, it's my 8th time in India and I can't wait to get back!
I want to visit Gangotri and trek to Gaumukh again with my husband. Last time I've been there I didn't need any permit (back in 2005) but I know now you do. Can anyone tell me if I can avoid stopping in Uttarkashi for permits and just go to Gangotri and do our permits there? Or maybe get the permits in Rishikesh? I'm on a limited time and wouldn't want to waste a day in Uttarkashi if I don't have to...
Also we want to do Kinnaur and Spiti Valleys, we thought of starting in Kinnaur and travel up to spiti and finish in Manali. We want to hitch hike through the valleys. What's the best way to get to Sangla/Kalpa from Rishikesh? We would rather not stopping in Shimla if possible
Many many thanks

You can get the permit at Gangotri if the daily quota of 150 is not used up at Uttarkashi. Shouldn't be a problem in Aug-Sep, but noone can guarantee you that.
There's no way to get from Rishikesh to Kinnaur direct. The best you can manage is a bus Dehradun-Shimla or Haridwar-Shimla.

Thank you so much Dilliwala!
So if I get to the national park(where you pay the entry fee towards gaumukh) in the morning, I just need to ask if the quota has been filled already? and if it hasn't then they will let us in on the spot?
Thanks again!

Dear
the best way you come 1st at uttarkashi and take permit from forest office,it is batter you com after 25th Aug.rain will be over as per forecast of weather department.
Your were last time at gomukh 1995, and now need was permit that time, but now you now have need permit,INR 600/- for 1st 02 days and after every day you can pay INR 250/- day/ person, also you can get permit from Gangotri.other if you know any local person send your Passport and Visa copy by scan trough mail and book your permit before coming you.
it is best and short way to going Himanchal from Uttarkashi, mean save your time and days.no need go back rishikesh from gangotri and uttarkashi batter go direct Manali from uttarkashi in one and half days.
Keep a touch for further.
thanks Manoj

@Dilliwala
Regarding Goumukh permit, As we will reach Uttarkashi sunday(30th Sept), so I am confused whether we have to stay Uttarkashi Sunday night & have to collect it on Monday morning or we will get it from Gangotri Monday morning?
Thanks in advance.

you need to check if the road is open, we just came back from India and when we wanted to go to Gangotri(3 weeks ago we were told the road between Uttarkashi to Gangotri is blocked due to a landslide and will be closed for about a month, so I recommend you check it in advance instead of going there for no reason(like we did)
