Ganga Closure till 17th October

Dear all,

Ganges at Haridwar will remain closed for cleaning from Dussehra to Diwali. As per news reports, the floor of Har ki pauri is also being renovated for Kumbh 2010, hence there will be zero water at Har ki Pauri.

hmmm...Nice move, because I guess after Diwali its the Karthik month of hindu calendar, and that is the most auspicious time to take a dip in Ganga ji.

Usually they allow some water at Har Ki Pauri so that people who come for rituals can have Ganges water available at Har ki Pauri and Brahma Kund but this time due to Kumbha, they have made it completely dry.....

And it's Bengali season there......

Dry day has different connotations in Mumbai :-); I guess you can always take a dip on the outer side where current is strong but you can hold onto the chains for dear life and take a dip...

Somehow, I always like Rishikesh over Hardiwar, I find the river to be cleaner, more comfortable to spend some time in and less crowded.

My experience with HDW is as follows:
On the way in from Mumbai to one of my treks in gharwal I always find it very peaceful and a good change
On my way back from the trek I just cant stand it ...

This has happened 3-4 times and I guess the reasons are not to difficult to imagine..

Ganga Closure during Diwali

We are planning to visit Haridwar on 16th Oct, 2009. I understand that there will be no water till 17th at Har Ki Pauri from dehliwala's post.
Are we going to be lucky enough to find water on the 16th?
Thanks

There is water in Ganges... it's flowing but not at the Har ki Pauri, the main bathing ghat.

The Bathing Ghat is under maintenance for coming Kumbha Fair...

Water at Har ki Pauri will be released on 17th Oct, Diwali day only...
