Kumaon in last week of December

Hi,

I am planning to make a trip to Kumaon in last week of December. There will be 4 adults (2 elderly) and one kid. As per my plan, I will reach Kathgodam on 23rd morning and leave Kathgodam on 31st night. I will book a car from Kathgodam for the entire trip. My compulsion is to make a trip itinerary making Nainital and Binsar as base. Accordingly, I have made the folloing plan:

December 23 : Kathgodam to Binsar
December 24 : Binsar in and around
December 25: Binsar in and around
December 26: Binsar to Munsiyari via Chaukori
December 27: Munsiyari in and around
December 28: Munsiyari to Nainital via Kausani
December 29: Nainital in and around
December 30 : Nainital in and around
December 31: Naitintal to Kathgodam and onward journey.

Please advise me on the following:

(a) whether overall plan is feasible
(b) what day trips can be done from Binsar i.e what would be the ideal way to utilise my 2D/3N stay at Binsar (I guess that I will reach Binsar quite late on the first day i.e 23rd December)
(c)what can be covered enroute from Binsar to Munsiyari
(d) whether any day trip can be done from Munsiyari
(e) what can be covered enroute from Munsiyari to Nainital
(f)what day trips can be done from Nainital.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for this quick suggestion.

so I guess that you suggest to come directly to Nainital from Munsyri via Bageswar-almora. Can Kausani be covered from Binsar in a day trip and is it worthwhile?

Dear snbhaumik,
There is nothing much to do in Binsar and if you remain there for one day it is more than enough to explore the place. The distance from Binsar to Munsiyari is about 150 odd Kms. and it would be a very tiredsome journey. It is better you cut short your stay at Binsar and travel upto Chaukori and stay there for the night. Next day you can travel from Chaukori to Munsiyari - check out my travelogue at - http://ghummakar-biswas.blogspot.in/...aukori-to.html - Similarly, the journey from Munshiyari is about 195 Kms. and this again is going to be a very tedious, try to break journey either at Pithoragarh or Bageshwar. Advisable.

Dear PKanti,
My view about nothing much to do in Binsar is in context with the composition of the tour group, 2 elderly+1 kid, it will be really cold when they visit and do you think that the elderly will be able to trek around. Without electricity at night? The suggestion was in context of the group and not in general.
Regards,

SRB

Need help

Hi,

I am planning a trip to the Kumaon in October, and during a part of this trip I will be taking Binsar- Almora- Shyamlatal- Mayavati. How much time does it take from Almora- Shyamlatal and from Shyamlatal- Mayavati?
Or is it better to do Binsar- Almora- Mayavati- Shyamlatal?
Please provide suggestions as I am a little confused about this.
Thanks.

instead of Kathgodam start/finish with Tanakpur........it'll help you on road travel time

better to drop Almora ......it'll come on the way to Binsar...........you may opt for Mukteshwar

The route is Tanakpur>Shyamlatal>Mayavati>A lmora. There are few coaches in Naini express which goes upto Tanakpur. From Tanakpur to Shyamlatal it is 45 minutes journey. For return journey it is better to take Almora route.

@ AgartalaGuy

love to add with "somnath", as your location saying Agartala and if your starting from your home-town, you may use this train to Tanakpur from Aishbagh (Lucknow).......it'll save the time of train journey:

Nainital Express/15308
