Delhi to Loharkhet in October
Hi, anyone has any info on Loharkhet?
I heard about this place from a friend and he invited me to join him in going to this place. According to him, the place is really beautiful and really cold considering the hot weather in Delhi. Can someone help me with some dope on this place... Thanks in advance, JS.

Its 3 Kms trek from Song (110 Kms from Almora) in Bageshwar distict. Trek to various glacier starts at Song.
Good place with good views. And yes its much cooler than Delhi. |

Loharkhet is the stop post Song enroute Pindari Glacier Trek. GMVN is making a new rest house there. Its perched up some 5km from Song at 1750mts. You can spend a night or two there for sure at the rest house but frankly there is not much to do there. The caretaker will take care of your food requirements. If you just intend to relax and just laze of its a decent place with decent views of Song village down under else nothing much !

There are better places to "chill". You can't do much at Loharkhet and even the views are strictly okay. You should consider trekking upto Dhakuri (10 kms) or Khati (18 kms) for some seriously good views.
Or you can always drive a little ahead of Bageshwar to Chaukori and chill there. |

The car can go up to Loharketh too the road is bad as of May this year not sure of the progress if you not keen on trekking up the 5KM you can take a local taxi/max jeep and go from Song to Loharketh.
Yes Dhakuri is a better place as suggested but that entails a walks of 11-12Km UP and is a bit strenuous too i would suggest Khati village which is 8Km further from Dhakuri |

Also pls advise if all these places that you have suggested above... Dhakuri, Khati & Chaukori are ahead of Bageshwar and Song? What's the stay arrangement, or should you suggest we get some camping gear from Delhi itself to help ourselves... this is already sounding so much fun. And lastly, will 3 days be enough - if we leave around 3AM on Friday morning, you think we can be there (at Chaukori) arund noon / early evening. and return to Delhi by Sunday night. We have to get back to office on Monday morning or our boss will kill us, (unless he too joins us in this trip) Thanks JS. |
