Delhi-Chakrata-Mori plan

Friends, Plan is:

Day 1: Delhi-Paonta Sahib-Chakrata
Day 2: Chakrata sighseeing (Tiger Falls, Deoban)
Day 3: Chakrata-Tiuni-Hanol-Mori-Sankri
Day 4: Mori/Sankri - Delhi

I'll be the sole driver. Some questions are below:

* Distance/road condition wise, does this plan look feasible? I understand that Day 4 is really long.
* What's the condition of Chakrata-Tiuni road? It seems that this might be in bad condition.
* Can tiger falls be reached by car?
* Can one reach Deoban in Scorpio?
* In case Deoban is on Chakrata-Tiuni road, then Deoban can be shifted to Day 3.
* How much time is required on Chakrata-Tiuni-Mori route?
* Where can I find reasonable accommodation on Tiuni, Mori, Sakri route?
* Any good spots for taking a dip in Tons river while going towards Mori.
* Is Day4 plan doable at all?

Thanks in advance friends!

Regards,
Mayank

Thanks for quick suggestions Pkanti. In case you can recommend any place for staying overnight, on Tiuni-Mori route, please suggest.

PS: I agree with your line about 'life being too short'.

Till we wait for Dilliwala to come in, the road conditions till Chakrata are supposed to be fine but from there to Mori are bad - this is as per secondhand reports on IM. On way back, Sankri-Delhi border is 10-12 hours drive time so a very very long day. Again, if the Mori-Chakrata route is broken it could be longer and more tiring. Good part is Vikasnagar-Poanta-Delhi roads seem to have been mended (again secondhand but from a friend who travelled there).

Sankri-Delhi can be done via Purola as well, where route is okay except a 25 km patch - takes 6 hours to dehradun / Vikasnagar. Wouldn't suggest in one day but then people have done 18 hour driving as well so who am I to say never!!

What, am I the official expert for this area? Whatever answers I had have already been given. Except -

It is possible to come down from Tiuni to Paonta all the way on NH 72B. The lower sections of this road should be good. Although this is officially an NH, I can't say what the condition on the upper sections (Tiuni to Minas Bridge) is - in 2005 it wasn't wide enough in many parts to allow 2 vehicles to pass without going partially off-road. I would ask at Tiuni, and if given thumbs-up then this would be a good way to return, specially since Paonta will afford simple access to NH 1. This would also be shorter than e.g. Tiuni-Chakrata-Vikasnagar-Paonta.

Agree with you Dilliwala about the return route. I was considering that for return.

But now, given little uncertainty about the route and the time to travel, I've decided to leave for Tungnath tomorrow. Will try to visit what I left the last time - Tungnath and Deoria Taal. Tons river valley for the next time.

I don't think there is much of uncertainty...personally I would not have made the switch. Leaving aside Tungnath, Deoria will be a torture to trek in this season. Pray that the weather gets better.

Friends, This is what I did finally:

Day 1: Noida-Syalsaur (Stay at GMVN, bath in Mandakini)
Day 2: Syalsaur-Tungnath-Ukhimath-Syalsaur (No peek at other peaks, but overall good starting trek for kids. Had to drop Chandrashila as rain started after our visit to the temple.
Day 3: Syalsaur-Rudraprayag-Deoprayag (Experience of Rudraprayag sangam is fairly different than what one see from the top. Similarly at Devprayag, but Rudraprayag is really 'rudra'.
Day 4: Devprayag-Noida (with 3 hours at Neer waterfall).

Overall good trip, with all passengers happy! (which is what serves the purpose).
