dehradun to gangotri

What sort of transportation is available from dehradoon to gangotri.Do buses run throughout the day.Two people will be travelling and we cannot afford a taxi.Plz suggest something cheap.

There are buses from Dehradun to Uttarkashi.
Halt there at Bhandari Hotel.
Next day to Gangotri from there by bus.
There may be Direct bus from Dehradun to Gangotri, but I'm not sure.
There is direct Bus service from Rishikesh to Gangotri which starts very early, around 4.00 am or 4.30 am.

Take a shared jeep to uttarkashi..
From uttarkashi, you can take another shared jeep/bus to gangotri..
