Dec end: garhwal or kumaon

Hi
I will be traveling this dec (probably in the last week) to uttaranchal with my brother. I would think on one of these-
1.Deoriatal,chandrashila and the chopta region and then onwards to kausani.
I have considered this after seeing this pic-

Is it possible to get to chandrashila or deoriatal in winter? And how cold is it?
2.Or binsar, chaukori and munsiyari. Again is it possible to get to munsiyari in this period or should i just cover binsar and chaukori?

This pic has been taken in Novembor. Will it be the same in december? http://www.flickr.com/photos/27998795@N03/page2/

Chandrashila and Deoriatal will be tough in winters as there will be snow.... so it will be kind of mountaineering and not trekking. And this will take more than normal time....may be double (never done in winters myself)

Chaukori & Munsiyari are OK. They are not a trek and are accesible by road.

And i think i had read somewhere about new private cottages in chaukori, would you rate them better than KMVN?
And about binsar which one has better views- khali estate or KMVN?

We would be reaching around 28th december- so is there any chance of roads being blocked due to snowfall?
And most importantly are room heaters available in the KMVN? Is it comfortabble enough?

Hey, Have stayed at Khalli estate. It is a lovely place and has a breathtaking view. The KVMN is sligthly further up into the forest and has a nice surrounding, but in terms of view, Khalli estate is better i thought. Also, there is a place caller Binsar Retreat whch is further up from the KVMN. It has tented acco. Very clean and neat with each tent opening out into a valley view.

I would recommend, either of the 2 Khalli or Binsar Retreat! Have also posted some photos of both the places in view from my room!

Hey - hope the reply is not too late - my computer crashed!

Khalli Estate is about a 10 to 15 minute drive to the nearest spot for Zero point. then there is a 15 minute walk.

Binsar Retreat is just a 20 - 30 min walk.

The food is quite nice - Indian only though. They have both veg and non-veg and cook to order whatever you want - typically they are only contrained by availability of vegetables (especially when not full season time) though if you tell them what you want to eat - say a day in advance, they should be able to manage. when i went there last, Khalli estate along with some ppl from the UK were developing 'walking holidays'. the plan was to use forest paths to nearby villages where the estate would have established and run small houses - but assured us they would be very clean and comfortable.
