I was planning to visit Chopta in July else October-November.
Would the monsoon deluge be bad in Chopta / Sar Village / Deoria Taal in July ? I mean if the peaks are completely covered in clouds and raining, wont be fun right :-)

From ISBT Kashmere Gate you can get a bus to Guptkashi. Get off at Kund. Jeep to Ukhimath, then jeep to Chopta.

Over the years and thanks to inputs from Diliwala, pkanti, etc; the best way to enjoy the journey for me has been the share taxis : hire and fire type.
I reach rishikesh by 9.30 PM catching the Jan Shatabdi which reaches sharp around 7 PM at Hairdwar followed by a local bus ride to Rishikesh.
A night of sleep and next day early morning I try for paper carrying cabs or the first cab that leaves Rishikesh anywhere between 3.30-4 am to 6 am.

From here, I latch onto a share taxi till Rudraprayag. Here you get a small bus or further taxis going to Guptakashi. The best part is, these are small but run on time as lesser seats to fill.

You can reach Ukhimath before 1 PM. From here, there are more cabs that run towards Chopta/Duggalbitta or Sari Gaon or one can hire one

Cheers!

Thanks for replying but i could not find that particular bus. I took a bus till rishikesh and from there the first bus starts at 5:15 in the morning for rudraprayag and from there a bus till ukimath. At ukimath, i could not find any bus or shared taxi going towards chopta. So i had to take a cab on booking for Rs. 800/- till chopta. I reached chopta by 3 in the afternoon.

From chopta a bus runs till ukimath at 2:30 in the afternoon and one can get down at taal and take shared cab till sari. From sari i trekked down to a village called mastoora (2km) and from there shared taxis can be taken till ukimath. You may have to wait as the taxis are coming from chopta. But a bus starts at 6 in the morning from sari which goes directly to rudraprayag and also a shared taxi starts at 8:30 in the morning for ukimath.

Also, even i heard that a direct bus runs between kund to delhi but i could not get the timing details.

Bus from rishikesh to Rudraprayag- Rs. 200/-
Bus from Rudraprayag to ukimath- Rs. 80/-
Cab from mastoora to ukimath - Rs. 20/-

(Just in case anybody needs any information later regarding the route.. hope it helps)

Thanks again dilliwala and prashant fro replying.

UTC has a booking-cum-enquiry counter at ISBT KG.

Good update on the local buses and share-jeeps in the Chopta/Sari area, these didn't exist when I went there.

Thanks Sure0715 for sharing the info. I am planning to travel to Chopta in October 2017 and I am planning to rely on shared taxis/buses. Will be trekking to Tungnath, Chandrashila, and Deoriatal. Is this a good time? (in terms of visibility of the peaks)

Are the buses from Haridwar to Rudraprayag comfortable? and any idea what the fare would be for shared jeep on that route?
From Ukhimath, are cabs readily available for hire? (if I want to book them to reach Chopta)

thanks in advance

Hi, I went in Mid september, so i don't think October will be a problem. But i would like to add that it was constantly drizzling so visibility used to go lower but was otherwise fine and this trek is totally doable so nothing to worry about.

I have no idea about buses from Haridwar (time and cost).. the buses which starts from Rishikesh are state buses and are ok ok types but not that bad. yes cabs and buses are readily available. From Rudraprayag try taking shared cab than bus as we had to face this problem .. the bus was stopping every now and then which was after a point very irritating.

Thanks for the info Sure0715. Based on other's responses (in a different thread) I have decided to take the UTC bus from Haridwar to Rudraprayag, and take a shuttle from there to reach Ukhimath. Regarding weather, I am a little suspicious about the visibility:really don't want to miss out the experience of a divine sunrise and sunset from Tungnath/Chandrashila. But there is nothing that we can do about it.

I will keep my fingers crossed and keep planning and hoping for the best.

thanks!

Hi,
I trekked around this area around 2015.
There is one bus which leaves Delhi (Kashmere Gate?) at 2100hrs and goes towards Guptkashi (only 1 bus if I remember). I don't remember that well, but you need to get off at a road diverging near Kund. Take any shared transport which passes by to Ukhimath. Again, take a shared transport to Sari or Mastoora village (whichever you can find) and start trekking towards Deoria Tal. There is a small shop near Deoria Tal where you can eat maggi/parantha, etc. From Deoria Tal, you can reach Tungnath and Chandrashila via Rohini Bughyal(if you take the right turn). If you keep walking straight, I think you'll probably end up at vasuki Taal (?).
This trek can be done in a single day if you can and want.
Have fun.
Pay your respects at the highest of the Panch Kedar and don't miss the sunrise at Chandrashila peak.

@pk2, can you throw some more light on the Rohini Bughyal route? I have heard of it, but not sure if it is difficult to trek.

I and my wife will be trekking for the first time and hence a little unsure. If the trek is doable (in terms of risks involved and terrain difficulty, we might try this route). I guess we will need to hire a porter/guide for the entire trek.
