Hi..
I am doing the Yamnotri - Gangotri - Kedarnath - Badrinath between 24th May to 5th June... I also want to do the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund sahib... I am aware that the VOF blooms only in July - Aug - Sept... So will the trek to Ghangria and ahead be worth it? Or should i just visit Hemkund Sahib? Also, my 9 year old daughter is accompanying me on this... Any special precautions for the Kids? Should one carry raincoats in the season? Kindly advise... |

VOF in June
VOF does open in June and you should be able to catch it at the very start of the flowering season. Though the valley is said to be in full bloom between July to End August, I'm sure you would be able to witness some early blooms in June.
Do carry good rain gear as it would be definitely raining in June, and would be cold as well. Carry easy to wear rain gear like a long over coat which should be easy to wear and remove. Since you are travelling with a 9 year old see that she is used to such heights coz Hemkund Sahid is a pretty tough uphill walk if you intend to trek. Else ponies are available for the Govindghat- ghangria and Ghangria-Hemkund stretch anyways. One more tip since you are doing the Chaardham trip, Do visit the Mana village which is just 3kms from Badrinath. |

You'll find the Valley green, as flowering season is from July onwards only......
However, as roam_along has already said, that VoF and Hemkund Sahab are tough treks.... Take necessary medicines like for fever, cough, cold and vomiting with you. And it rains almost daily in the valley, carry Ponchos or rain coats. Since you'll be doing chardhams also, I am pretty sure you'll have to use them at least more than once....

Hi Mumbaihermit ,
Please do not miss the place called 'Chopta' in the way from Ukhimath to Badrinath . It is an awsome place where you will find almost 270 degree view of the snowpeaks. If You wish , you can also visit Tunganath(3.5 km trek from Chopta) Temple . Tunganath is one out of 5 Kedar's and it is the highest altitute temple(12072 feet). You may find pony from Chopta to visit Tunganath and come back to Chopta. |

If You choose the above schedule ,please make sure that You leave Ukhimath as early as possible on 31st morning. As before entering Josimath , there is a military checkup(in Pipolkoti). You have to reach that place before 4:00 pm , otherwise they will not allow the vehicle to go to Josimath. |
