Dear cityMONK,

You may take following route:

Delhi-Karnal- take right just after karnal byepass - Indri -Ladwa-Yamuna Nagar-Jagadhri-Kalesar- cross Yamuna at barrage and take a left to towards Herbetpur-Vikasnagar-Kalsi-Sahiya-Chakrata.

Indri - Ladwa stretch is little rough.....

And if your Maruti 800 is fit, no issues ! Please get a thorough checkup. The route after Kalsi demands some respect !

Kalsi and Dakpathar are not same. Dakpathar is a small detour from Vikasnagar.

I have no pics of Ram garden, in fact I don't know where is it ?

We went for relaxation and stayed at Hotel Himalayan Paradise, which is some 8 KMs ahead of Chakrata on Kwasi road.

Cantonment area is a prohibited place, as it houses a special jungle warfare and commando training centre.

No good eateries in town either. We ate at Shere Punjab, a tiny dhaba in the main bazar. Dinner and all meals next day were at our hotel Himalayan Paradise....

Nothing challenging ! You'll enjoy !

No ! They are different towns ! Lansdowne is near Kotdwar on Pauri route. Lansdowne is at 1700 M and Chakrata is a little higher at 1900 M above sea level.

Alas ! No pics...I had gone to meet one of my friend at Pauri Engineering college and then we went to this place, it's very close to Pauri.

We didn't stay also ! but there is one GMVN-TRH and one more small hotel.

If you google for Khirsu, you should get some pics to have an idea of the place......

dear delhi wala

MY CA SIR HAD GONE TO CHAKRATA WAY BACK 18 YEARS AGO. THEY, GROUP OF FOUR BOYS, STAYED IN FRH WHICH WAS WITHOUT ELECTRICITY.

THAT TIME THERE WAS SOME GATE SYSTEM FOR HILL ROAD.AS IT ALLOWS TRAFFIC TO MOVE IN ONE DIRECTION ON TWO HOURS ALTERNATIVE BASIS.

ARE ROADS WIDE NOW OR THAT GATE SYSTEM IS STILL FOLLOWED.
IF YES HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED TO WAIT.

Gate system abolished ! Road wide enough for two way traffic.

And No all Caps, please !!

Hi all,

I am planning for a weekend trip to Chakrata.I will be travelling by new Indica Vista and will be taking the Moussoorie route. Here are my questions

a)How are the roads. Are they pucca tar roads or jeepable roads. This is very important for me as my car is new and whole trip is dependent on that

b) Do we have any chance of Skiing in Mandoli in Chakrata.

c) How about photography .I was told that this is not allowed in the whole of chakrata. How much of it is true(prob not allowed in the cantonement area)

Thanks
hdi.

Welcome to IM hdi_pro !

Mussorie - Chakrata road is fit for car driving. No issues....

Except in Cantt. area, there are no restrictions on photography anywhere in Chakrata.

No idea about Mandoli sking !!

Sarkar,

So that red indica vista goes place. Congrats.

Mussoorie route is good. I met someone who had taken that. I took yamunanagar route. reached in 8.5 hours incl 1 hours spent floundering around Jagadhri - 20km of no roads.

If chakrata only you want, take NH1, kala amb via ambala, and then paonta chakrata.

Snow view is the place to go. Book early.

Skiing at mundali is impossible. Its a horrible gravely track (what locals told me) and you can instead do kanasar there.

deoban is doable too, but if it rains (HAIL!) like in our case, you're better off at kanasar. else a nice chilled out place.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...m-driving.html

We took pics everywhere - but we didnt go INSIDE cantonment area.

FRH is cheap and best - but book in advance. And at the Y turn, take left, enter the cantonment section its atop the hill.
SMASH!!!!

For Deoban a 4WD is better suited ! IMO, do not try with your new car.

Kanasar is no doubt good...

We stayed at Himalayan Paradise, little ahead of Snow View on Kwasi road. A nice hotel with a resident dog, who walked with us on a small trek......
