Badrinath Activities?
Badrinath Activities?
Hi! I am thinking about heading up to Badrinath to see the views and temple around June 1-4... I have found a lot of information about the temple, falls, and Mana Village, but unfortunately not much about other activities in the area. Looking at Google Earth there seems to be a lot of good scenery in the area. What do you recommend and are your favorite things to do in the Badrinath area? Any good day hikes?
Also, is an inner line permit required for hiking beyond Mana Village? If so, where could one get one?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Satopanth Lake: This triangular lake of serene water has a perimeter of about half a kilometer. It is about 25 Kms. from Badrinath. Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar, the Hindu trinity are believed to occupy one corner each, and which are named after them. The trek is hazardous, but full of dramatic scenery. There is no place to rest between, except caves. Cooked food, stove etc. have to be carried from Badrinath itself.
Vashudhara: Water falls have always captivated the human imagination. 5 Kms. from Mana village, toward the west is the Vasudhara fall with a sheer drop of 145 mtrs., set in a background of snowy peaks, glaciers and rocky heights.
Rudranath Temple: The temple is situated amid thick forest at a height 2286 mtrs. From Gopeshwar 4 kms motorable road is available upto village Sagar from where 20 kms. trek leads to Rudranath and can be approached from Joshimath as well, by trekking about 45 kms. The temple provides magnificent view of Hathi Parvat , Nandadevi, NandaGhunti, Trishuli and many other.
You would not need a inner line permit till Mana. But if you want to go to any of the above mentioned places contact SDM Joshimath at 01389-222109 for more information on where inner line permit is needed.

Thanks Rajered! I am now looking into Satopanth Lake as good backpacking trip, working how I can work the logistics of it... Out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how much a porter is in Mana? I might go it solo without a porter!
And solo to satopanth lake would not be reccomended
But sitting next to the lake knowing there's nobody within 1 day radius would be an experience.. incidentally this path Pandav's also took on their way to Swarga (rohini).. The lake is at the base of the stairs which led yudhishthar to heaven..
Rudranath could be equally good..

Wow, I am now thinking about incorporating both Rudranath and Saptonath Lake into my travels after this thread! I am heading to India for the first time from May 18 to June 20, and as such I decided I just need to focus in on Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on this trip... Looks like an incredible area!
VOF or gangotri?
hai friends,
i am interested in badrinath and kedarnath temples visit along with my parents in june. inaddition to this i really want to have the real beauty of the himalayas and their snow clad peaks as near to them as possible.
which is better option. going to gangotri and yamunotri or going to VOF and hemkund?
which gives us the cheerful memories?

The two can't be compared !!!
Badri-Kedar, Hemkund are pilgrimage.....
VoF is for nature lovers......
Depends on your interest !
All these places will give you cheerful memories.....

to visit valley of flower july to mid august is the proper time, as most of the flowers are in their blossoming phase during this period.. and weather is also fine to have a trek.. after mid-august, due to onset of rainy season, the trekking and travelling both becomes hectic due to landslides and roadblocks..
Hemkund and VOF are one can say adjacent to each other.. and trully its like heaven once you reach there..
