We are planning for Chardham in sept-end to oct-1st week. Along with chardham, which are other good places that can be done as we have 2 days to spare (there are 2 senior citizens).
We thought of Auli, how would be Auli in oct-1st week. How will be scenic beauty of Auli without snow?
Kindly Advice

There is absolutely nothing to do at Auli except staring at the scenery (not bad even without snow) all day long. Those who do not like such a thing may not like Auli. Can also stay at Harsil for a day.

Other options are small hike of Chopta - Tungnath. It's a beautiful place and not a long/ difficult walk. Similar option Vasudhara falls ahead of Badrinath. At these places, one can experience true divinity of the mountains outside of the chaos that chardhams have become.
Learning to be silent.

If they are at decent enough fitness level for planning 20 kms to Kedarnath (even if on a horse), I think 4 kms walk to Tungnath shouldn't be an issue

Of-course, they know themselves better can decide among the options after researching.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually we are staying in harsil instead of Gangotridham...so harsil would be done

I will check feasibilty of Vasudhara falls

Regarding Chopta, if we are not doing any trekking or hiking then whether there would be any sightseeing?

Actually with my parents, trekking or hiking is ruled out....Kedarnath we will go by helicopter

Can rule out Vasudhara then.
How do you plan to reach Yamunotri - horses?
Tungnath is also possible by hiring a horse - around 1 hour ride, if that may work for you.
Chopta (or Baniyakund nearby) is still beautiful. Can look for pics on the web, and decide if you'd like to go there.

There are no proper hotels in Kedarnath - only tents/ basic guesthouses.

Early Oct nights can get slightly chilly. Should keep some warm clothing.

In Kedarnath, whether there can be issue of altitude sickness during night stay. We have been to Switzerland peaks (Jungfrou and Mt. Titlis) in last summer which are at higher altitudes, but were their only for day tour and night we were down for sleeping. We all were fine with absolutely no problem.
Whether staying in night makes any difference in terms of altitude sickness?

Yes, night stay, or day stay for several hours makes a difference. Altitude sickness doesn't affect instantly on reaching high altitude, but after staying there for a few hours, especially at night, when breathing slows down due to relaxed body. When walking - the body has time to adapt to gradually reducing oxygen levels. By helicopter, there is a sudden drop in a span of half hour, so it further increases the risk.

Better to start medication that aids acclimatization a couple of days before the trip (Diamox - Acetazolamide). Consult your family doctor before having this medicine if anyone in your family have some pre-existing illness.

Secondly, spending some extra time walking at Badrinath, Gangotri or Yamunotri will help, whichever you are going before Kedarnath. Also, drink a-lot of water, even if you wouldn't feel like.

This is not to scare you. On taking above precautions, the risk can be minimized, and in-case AMS still happens, there would be sufficient medical-aid available at Kedarnath.
