I was in India (and at the Language School) on a tourist visa - the only kind of visa I could apply for. The school is not allowed to invite students on a student visa - for a student visa you would need an invitation from the school. I also thought I could apply for a student visa but I was wrong. See page 8 of this thread, and esp. this post.Don't know what the options are for Swiss citizens, though (compared to Finnish citizens). What's really important: What kind of visa do you need for your (volunteer?) work? Does that visa not allow you your two weeks at the school?

lagom,
Just apply for a tourist visa, that's what everyone else (going to LLS) does - applying as a volunteer will also create problems/delays. If you are required to mention places you intend to visit, you can truthfully do so without getting into specifics.

I'm planning to be in Landour in the first week of Sept and will be there for a week. I will be there on holiday and mainly coming down to see the wild flowers that bloom arounf the end of monsoon. I am keen on staying up close to Lal Tibba this time.
Am a bit confused with the acco
- I am looking for a simple, resonable place that covers meals as well. Would appreciate if you could advise one of the 4-5 places that are availabe at Landour.
Thanks...

Thanks ! I felt the same reading through most threads and just shot of a mail to Mr Singh... Actually I enquired with Dev Dar and he quoted a price double of what I had read on the internet - that too just the rent excluding meals! This got me wondering if these places are in great demand from students of LLS...
Thanks...

thanks for the replies.
I talked to some people today and all of them reccomended me to apply for a normal tourist visa. I won't tell the embassy anything about the school and the volunteer work is like a visit of the project leader...
How detailed do I have to tell which regions i will visit? is northern india enough? Or just "Dehra Dun" and "Mussoorie", Uttarkhand, even when I'm planning to travel more...?

Namaste, lagom jii! I've just been reading through this thread and am pleased to know that another IMer will be up in Landour at the same time as me - at least for a while - I'm arriving in Landour on 26th September (a friday) to start classes on monday 29th. I'm staying until the school closes for the winter in December, and am just starting to get very excited about the whole thing! I confirmed my place with the language school a couple of months ago, but having read through this thread and the other Landour thread, I feel like it might be a good idea to email again to emphasise that I want full-time study, and also to ask about tutors outside the school for weekend study etc.
Anyway, that's enough of a ramble from me for now... if anyone is around in Landour from the end of September until December and would like to get together for chai & Hindi practice, please do let me know!

hey Camilla! Sounds good! =) Have you already learned some hindi? I did a course here im Switzerland, but I'm still quite a beginner. Do you have an email adress, so that we could "talk" some more? Which guest house will you stay at?
Hi lagom, yes I've done a Hindi course in London but I am also very much a beginner. I basically didn't make enough time to practice this year, but I'm really determined to learn, so I thought throwing myself into it whole-heartedly for a while at Landour would be my best hope.
I'm currently in e-mail correspondence with Mr. Sarvajit Singh at Kilmarnock lodge, who has very kindly just sent me pictures of a couple of the rooms and dates which they are available to choose from. From what I've read on the IM Landour threads, Kilmarnock is a nice place to stay, so all being well I will be staying there.
I'll probably find the answer to this question if I read through the thread again, but have you decided where you're staying yet?
I'll also PM you with my e-mail
Yay! I just had an email from Mr Singh confirming my booking. Getting more excited by the second!

hey camilla,
haven't read your PM yet.
I mailed to mr singh too, but I decided to go to woodside as it's only 300 ruppees compared to the quite expensive 700 ruppees from kilmarnock. (ok, there is food included, but anyway)
Now I will go and check my pm's =)

Not sure if these questions have been answered on the forum, but need to know 1) How long does it take to get from Delhi to Landour? and 2) How far is the nearest medical clinic or hospital?
1. Depends on your mode of transport between
a) Delhi and Dehradun (bus, train, or plane?),
b)Dehradun and Mussoorie (bus or taxi?),
c) Mussoorie centre to Landour Cantt. (taxi or legs?).
2. All there in this thread!

The first question interests me, too.
I would choose: a train to dehra dun, then a bus up to Mussoorie and then a taxi to the guesthouse. How are the connections, how can I find a bus from Dehra Dun to Mussoorie?
Thank you!
