Almora
Hi there.....
What is the best way to get from Delhi to Almora?
I suspect that " Take the bus" is probably the answer..(yuck)
If this is true, can you tell me what companies to go with, and where to buy tickets?
Do tell I am wrong, however, if it is possible to go there by train, at least some of the way...advice and recommendations much appreciated......
Shukre.......

I am happy to tell you that you are wrong and that it is indeed possible to get within 90 kms. of Almora by train !
You catch the overnight Ranikhet Express from Delhi and alight at Kathgodam. Then take a bus/ share-taxi from Kathgodam to Almora.
The Ranikhet Express leaves Delhi Jn. at 22=45 and reaches Kathgodam at 06=15 the next morning.

Whoever said money can't buy happiness didn't know where to shop !

Kasar Devi - which is a 10rps shared taxi ride above Almora is a great place to stay in the area. The views of Nanda Devi are fabulous! It's a really peaceful place and the locals are very friendly.
Akash Deep Guest House is a nice place to stay at a mere 60rps per night. Sundar the owner is a very pleasant chap. A five minute walk back to towards Almora from Akash Deep the local shop - run by the charming Anand does a great breakfast.
I think I got off the train one stop before Kathgodam - can't remember the name but it basically makes no difference. I think it was about 60rps to Almora. The road journeys in the area are spectacular.
Cheers
