Allahabad to Agra and Nainital
Allahabad to Agra and Nainital
Hi there,
I am currently in Allahabad, working in a hospital - I will be here for 3 more weeks.
After that, I have until approx 27th June (still waiting on confirmation!) until I fly home from Delhi.
I want to at least visit 1) Agra and 2) Nainital (and any other suggestions that people may have!)
I was wondering if anyone knows that best way of visiting these places, departing Allahabad on or around 15th or 16th June, and being back in Delhi to fly home on 27th June.
What is the best order to do this in?? And have I left myself enough time?
This is my first time in India, am travelling alone, and any help would be very much appreciated!! Thank you very much
Hannah

10 days is good enough time for you...withing 3-4 days time you can complete the sightseeing of Delhi and Agra...and rest of timeyou can spend in hills considering that plains are too hot tolive these days.. Food Enthusiasts of Delhi

Hi, thanks for your reply! So do you think it is best to go to Agra from Allahabad, then to Delhi for a couple of days, then to Nainital, returning to Delhi for flight??
Quote:
I guess you can goto Agra - Naitnital - Delhi but I am not sure if you can reach Nainital Directly from Agra without coming to Delhi..
btw..what exactly is it that interestsyou in Nainital ??

i think someone who had only been to Nainital has given him/her recco for Nanital.

I was flicking through the lonely planet and came across it. Everyone I speak to seems to talk very highly of it. Want somewhere cool (!) relaxing, lots of nice walks etc. Is there somewhere else you would recommend?

generelly western people are more attrached towards Dharamshala and Mcleoganj, as its is a hill station and also offers an insight into Buddhist Culture..

Hannah do you want to 1.Relax at a cool place or
2.want a culture trip combined with mountains
3.or want a bit of adventure in mountains .
You have 10 days and yu wont need more than 1 for agra. Agra is burning this time so from ur hotel to Taj will be enough adventure. I will not reccomond fatehpur sikri which many will try to thrust on yu once yu are in Agra. You have time u can choose. Please spell yur choice of the 3 above.
My choice! :)

Hi there,May I ask why you wouldn't recommend Fatehpur Sikri?
Do I have to choose?? All 3 of your choices sound very appealing! If I had to choose I guess it would be number 2 - maybe with a bit of adventure thrown in!

hello,
lots and lots of buses go from delhi to kathgodam/nainital from the anand vihar inter state bus terminus (anand vihar isbt), including night buses. keep 8 hours of bus travel from delhi to nainital (to be on the safer side).
if u want to see what all can u visit in uttarakhand..i have most of the places (with pics) on my blog. u can go through them and see if u like nay place in particular.
in nainital, visit snow view, raj bhavan and the golf grounds behind the raj bhavan. also visit the flats..and have the local fruits (hisalu, kafal, plums, apricots, etc)..which will be in full bloom.

Fatehpur Sikri is parched rocky terrain. It’s Hot. Personally i didn’t find a BIG gate so appealing, and it may take a days worth of time and energy. Though many like it.
For choice number 2, I suggest either
1. Kedarnath-Vasukital trek. Half day from Delhi to Rishikesh/Haridwar. next morning Rishikesh to Gaurikund take rest at Gaurikund. Gaurikund- Kedarnath take rest at Kedar . Kedar -Vasukital and back. If you still feel like , day you descend back from Kedar to Gaurikund take vehicle upto Chopta. Stay night at Chopta next day can to Tungnath and come back proceed further to Delhi or stay more day at Tungnath itself (yes there are options to stay at Tungnath hardly anybody knows)
2. Gangotri-Gaumukh-Tapovan . Delhi Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi Gangotri.gangotri Bhojbasa. Bhojbasa –Tapovan-Bhojbasa. Bhajbasa-Gangori-Uttarkashi . depending upon what means (bus or cab) you take you can have plenty of spare time.
Once you make up your mind, experts here (I am not an expert) will fix exact itinerary for you.
Btw --is 'banana' a surname
I was not that impressed by Nainithal. In your place I'd go for Kausani or Raniketh or Almora.
You can get there from Agra via Bareilly and Haldwani

well, it's nainital, not nainithal.
and it is a very beautiful place..spoiled by uncontrolled tourism. earlier it was such a beautiful place, that before the british rule, people were not allowed to live there..least they spoil its beauty.
it was from the raj days that the habitation and subsequent degradation of nainital started.

Not sure why everyone gives Nainital such a slating
IMHO it's one of the most beautiful towns/areas i've visited in Himalayas with lots to do, however it was 10yrs ago & was the first place i visited in Himalayas so i may be biased. I've heard it is now inundated with Indian Tourists, but so what! we are all tourists! I also don't get the western tourists go to Mcleod & Indians go to Nainital thing either? Western tourists can be more annoying than Indian ones sometimes!Don't get me wrong i personally love Mcleod but why this western/Indian tourist DIVISION??
Anyway Hannah, if you are not put off Nainital by now GO FOR IT! You won't regret it.You could also fit in a quick trip to Ranikhet or/& Almora from there.IMHO the best way from Allahabad would be to take the overnight train to Kathgodam where you can then take a short bus or taxi to Naini. You can then take a train to Delhi from Kathgodam 5-6hrs then from Delhi to Agra the biggest Western/Indian tourist trap in India! with touts to match, i've not been but everyone who has tells me Fatehpur Sikri is the better less hassle choice.
