Hi All,
Due to the 2010 Kumbha Mela @Haridwar , is there any possibility of not having Holy Ganges flow in the Harki Pauri ?
The above doubt came to my mind because when we went to Haridwar in 2003 during Diwali time, we observed that there was no water over there.
The local people told that the cleaning process is going on due to ArdhaKumbha(Haridwar) 2004.

Please clarify my doubt.

It was a really a deserted look in the Harki Pauri Ghat with no Holy Ganges flow.

During Kumbh there will be full water in Ganges...

Har ki Pauri is the place where saints/nagas/sadhus take bath...

Delhiwala,
Let me explain my doubt little more.
Due to 2010 Kumbha their might be a possibility(I want confirmation from anybody) of cleaning activity in the Harki Pauri Ghat during 2009 puja time.(I am telling this because , i observed the same in 2003 Diwali time , where ArdhaKunbha was there @Haridwar in 2004)

Yes, Kumbha Mela is a majestic event, People used to go to take holy bath. Ganges will be full of Water then.

The canal is closed every year after monsoons (Normally after dusshara and before dipawali) for cleaning and maintenance purpose.

jituyadav , thanks for the information , I also assumed the same due to 2010 Kunbha

I am not sure exactly whether every year the cleaning happens(Because in 2002 also we went to Haridwar after Dussera but the canal was fully active)

Anyways ,
Let's keep our finger crossed as per canal closure is concerned. We will be in Haridwar on 1st Oct.

Har Har Gange..

A lot depends on the irrigation requirements in plains, as this is a lifeline for agriculture in western Uttar Pradesh. If there is requirement of water for agriculture, that takes the priority and time may be changed or cleaning even skipped.

Advice for 2010 Kumbh mela

Hi,

My husband and I will be visiting India for 3 months. We'll be passing through Haridwar for the Kumbh mela on Jan.31-Feb.2.

We are both Americans (though I am of Indian descent) and were wondering if we'd be accepted in any of the ashrams in Haridwar.

Is there an ashram that is friendly to Westerners. We're not interested in hard-core yoga or anything like that, but would love to learn some breathing/meditation techniques and participate in all of the festivities in a welcoming setting.

Am happy to get any feedback on good ashrams/hotels in the area. Also, must these be booked far in advance?

thanks!
