A wonderful Trip to Auli
Hi
Friends I started my trip from Roorkee on 26th Dec., 2008 taking some important tips from the Blwetorch's thread. My rout was as follows: 26-12-08 (By 12 Noon) Roorkee-Bhataghat-Suakhali-Dhanaulti-Kuddukhal-Chamba-Koti Colony-Bhagirathpuram-New Tehri (Reached by 8 PM, 26th Dec., 08. One day Halt) Here, from Chamba we turned to our left for Old Tehir. But, reaching there we found that there was no hotel so we had to come back to New Tehri. 27-12-08, (morning 10:30 am) New Tehri-Tipri-Pipal Dali-Gadolia-Ghansyali-Mulgarh-Chirbatiya-Bainoli-Tilwara-Ukhimath (Halt) We reached here around 8:30 pm. This time I very often drove the car in night. 28-12-08 (By 10:30 am) Ukhimath-Deoria Tal-Ukhimath (Halt) memorable, but for me and my wife it was a very hard task to accomplish and would never like to repeat such things again. Mind it the distance from Sari goan to Deoria tal is not 1.5 Km rather it is 3 Km as the local people told us. 29-12-08 (By 10:30 am) Ukhimath-Chopta-Gopeshwar-Chamoli-Pipal Koti-joshimath (Halt) It was the most pleasant part of our journey. All through the way the natural beauty is of absolute magnitude. If it was so beautiful without ice and snow fall then one can imagine what it would be otherwise. 30-12-08 (By 9:00 am) Joshimath-Auli-Delhi (Halt) Auli is worth visiting. But with-out ice and snow fall things were not very impressive. Through out the hilly area I drove the car. WE reached Rashikesh from Auli by 8 pm. Then I gave the car to my driver. He drove it back to Delhi. We reached Delhi by 3 am (Night). We did it so because by that time we all were fed-up with the same monotonous surrounding and everybody was longing to get back immediately. In particular, my son who was very much anxious to come back to Delhi the same day. 03-01-09 Delhi-Bach to Home (Aligarh) Through out our journey we were deprived of snow and snow fall by nature. Coming back, now the news are pouring in that there is a heavy snow fall on all those places where we have been few days before. Perhaps, there might have been some good luck for us to be deprived of ices and snow. Gods knows better. Soon, I will give you a critical details of my trip. But, now I am giving you some pictures of our journey Thanks to all of you and in particular to Delliwala. Hello MAS, can you please tell me the present status of weather, snow and snowfall at AULI. I am going for skiing next week. How is the season. Has the skiing started? Any inputs on GMVN Tourist Rest House current status (are they open, as I have heard about a lot of construction activities for Winter games there)?
Thanks in advance !

Hi avidtrekker_del
I was at Auli on 30th Dec., 2008. By that time there was no snow at all and the snowfall was a distant dream. The preparation work for winter games was in full swing. According to the overseer, posted there, they were asked to complete their work by 15th January, 2009. He was very much hopeful for the work being completed by that time. But, apparently it was not obvious. Since there was not a trace of ice or snow by that time, so no question of any skiing or related activities. They have also got a machine for artificial snow making. So, it appears that the winter game organizers are determined to achieve their target in time. If you want to stay in GMVN Tourist Rest House, better you immediately get it booked otherwise, you may have a difficulty. Nevertheless, there are several good hotels in Joshimath. All the best. Hope, you will find every thing what we had dreamt for. MAS Last edited by MAS : Jan 7th, 2009 at 22:49. |
