Hello,

I have just completed a tour to Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Vrindaban and Delhi with my parents, wife and son. Here is my short trip report whether it help someone.

24-Dec-2014: Start from Howrah station by Vivhuti Express

25-Dec-2014: Reach Varanasi at 12:30. Train was late due to heavy fog. One of my uncle’s house is in Varanasi. So we stayed there. At evening went to Rajendraprasad Ghat and watch Ganga Arati. After that we went to Bishwanath Temple.

26-Dec-2014: After breakfast went to Sankata Temple. Then we enjoyed a boat ride from Sindhia Ghat to Dashaswamedh Ghat. After lunch we went to Sarnath. Then BHU, Sankat Mochan and Durga Temple.

27-Dec-2014: Our train for Agra was at 17:20, Marudhar Express. But due to heavy fog the train was rescheduled at 23:30. We went to the station at 23:00. But the train got rescheduled again and again.

28-Dec-2014: Finally at 03:00 the train started. Actual time of reaching Agra Fort was 06:10. Our plan was to visit Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpursikri on that day. But the train reached Agra Fort at 21:25. Our car (Tavera) was ready on station. There was very dense fog. The car was moving in 2nd gear with emergency light blinking. We checked-in to The Light House Hotel. The hotel was excellent. We ordered kadhai chicken and butter nun in room service. The food was fabulous.

29-Dec-2014: After buffet breakfast (complementary) we checked-out from the hotel put luggage in the car and move towards Taj Mahal. From the gate we took a battery rickshaw to the actual entrance of Taj Mahal. After spending some quality time there we took battery rickshaw again for Agra Fort. The fort is big enough but not like great forts of Rajasthan. After seeing the fort we called our driver and asked him to come in front of the fort. Then we started for Mathura. With a lot of sadness we had to drop Fatehpursikri from our plan. En-route we took lunch at a dhaba.

At around 16:00 we reached Sri Krishna Janmabhumi. After visiting the temple we took nice rabri. Then moved towards Giri Govardhan. After visiting the Govardhan temple we move to our hotel Vrinda Palace at Vrindaban. This hotel is also very good. We ordered chapatti, kadhai paneer and mixed veg sabji. Food was good.

30-Dec-2014: After having aloo paratha in breakfast we checked out from the hotel and started temple hopping. After completing all major temples we started for delhi Akshardham temple. We reached Akshardham at around 16:00. The temple is just AWESOME. After spending almost 2 hours there we started for our hotel in paharganj. We checked in to Hotel Hari Piorko. This hotel was also superb. We soon went out for some shopping in the main bazaar. After buying lot of jackets and swals we came back to the hotel and went to the roof top restaurant. Food was good but there were 2-3 cats which were very irritating. It is better to go to the restaurant in the hotel’s 1st floor.

31-Dec-2014: After breakfast we checked out from the hotel and visited Jantar Mantar. After that we went to India Gate and then Humayun’s Tomb and Lotus Temple. After that we had lunch and then visited the Qutub Complex. Our flight for Kolkata was at 17:45 (Indigo). So at around 15:45 we started for airport and reached there by 16:35.

delhi agra advice

Hi,
nice trip report with lots of information.. My father and uncle is going to delhi for a 4 day vacation in February last week or march first week.Tentative itinerary as follows.

1. Day -1 -- Reach Delhi from Kolkata before 2.pm. . What sightseeing can be done in afternoon?

2. Day-2 -- Whole day tour for delhi sightseeing (raj ghat, kutub minar, president house, lotus temple,akshardham,jantar-mantar,Red Fort.....etc) . dose it need 2 days to complete delhi sightseeing.

3.Day-3 -- delhi to agra by car (through jamuna expressway) , taj mahal & agra fort sightseeing. Night Stay at agra

4.Day -4 -- Fatehpur sikrii and back to delhi.

5. Day- 5 -- fly back to kolkata

Now my queries are as follows.

1. Will it be very cold on that time (feb last/march first week) ?

2. What sightseeing can be done in afternoon on day1?

3.Please suggest me hotels in delhi and agra (Not very luxurious but of good standard)

4.Could you please suggest me contacts of few car drivers?

5. Does it need 2days to complete delhi sightseeing as both the persons are senior citizen.

6. Please feel free to modify the itinerary if needed.

Thanks in advance. Eagerly waiting for your reply..

Delhi - Hotel Hari Piorko (www.hotelharipiorkodelhi.com). I stayed there. Nice hotel at Paharganj Main Bazar (walking distance from New Delhi station). Food was also very good. Online booking can be done. But I have negotiated via email and they provided me some discount. I sent advance by NEFT. Email - hpiorko@yahoo.in

Agra - The Light House Hotel (www.hotellighthouseagra.com). I stayed there. Nice hotel. Very good food. Breakfast included in tariff. Email - info@hotellighthouseagra.com

Cab can be arranged from hotel. Make sure the driver takes Jamuna Express Way. Many of them commit to do it but finally tell "it is close due to some accident" and take G T Road which kills time.

One day is sufficient. Just put Akshardham on previous day as it takes maximum time (2-3 hrs). Include Humayn's Tomb.

2-3 hrs for Akshardham would make it a hurried tour. It takes minimum 5 to 6 hours.
