UP in July?

I'm getting some time off in the month of July and I've decided to visit a few places in Uttar Pradesh, places such as Mathura, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Benaras etc.

Is it a good time to visit during the rains?

Well Rains may not have fully hit UP at that time, specially first half of July. I would say go for it.

I don't mind the rain. Things look very different during that time of the year. The heat is something I'd like to avoid completely!

How would it be in August? Are the rains too heavy?

Does anyone know how to get from Kolkata to Mathura?
I checked out the railway website and it seems none of the Delhi-bound trains go anywhere near Mathura. Do I have to go via Delhi?

You may come to Agra. From here Mathura is just 58 KMs.

Could you tell me which trains? The railway website has Agra Cantt, Agra City, and Agra Fort as destinations! Which one is the correct one?

From Agra you have Toofan Exp #3008 for Calcatta (Hawarh).

I suggest you to either go to Delhi or Tundla. You will have plenty of faster options for Calcutta.
