Three Days in Lucknow

So, taking advantage of getting some money to travel this summer, my husband and I will be climbing out of our mountains and going down to Lucknow. We're looking at spending 3-4 days, taking a sleeper from Dehradun to Lucknow and back.

He's very focused on history (especially military history); I'm passionate about culture and religion (anyone's), so we decided Lucknow would be a great place to visit, especially as our winter holidays are being taken up by visitors coming to see us for most of the winter term break.

The guidebooks (and reading through the IM forums) generally talk about some of the "big things" - Bara & Chhota Imambaras, Residency, etc. Are there any hidden gems someone might recommend (particularly as we've got residency permits and will be here at least through the summer of 2013), particularly great shops, restaurants, etc?
