I have three days to kill from when I exit New Delhi to when I meet my friends in Varanasi..

Arrives New Delhi 10 Oct Leave New Delhi October 12, reservations in Varanasi Oct 15. Has done the Agra area thingie last trip.. Somewhere a little off the tourist map would be preferable

Gimme a clue, and will go from there..

Thanks..

Another vote for Lucknow; it's a charming city (despite the fact that it's crumbling) and people are very nice there. And you won't see many other foreigners -- that always makes ME very happy.

Lightbulb Lucknow and Allahabad

I would say spend two days in Lucknow and one day in Allahabad. You will get a real feel for Uttar Pradesh and its culture if you visit these two places. Enjoy! Tulsi

If you can, try Kushinagar.

It is located on NH-28, 50 Kms from Gorakhpur.

Take Vaishali express from N Delhi (leaves around 7:45 PM), and get off at Gorakhpur (morning 10 AM). One can take a bus or hire a taxi from Gorkhpur to Kushinagar. Should not take more than 1:30 minutes.
