Rishikesh - Place to stay out of main town, close to Ganga ?

Hi,

Going to Rishikesh tomorrow and since its a sudden plan (as always), just have some Qs.

- Any idea of any place close to the water but out of the main town, probably somewhere higher.. close to Shivpuri etc ?
- I know there are camps as well on the ganga beach but we dont want to do any rafting. so i am not sure if we can just stay in a camp and NOT do any rafting. Ideal would be a hotel just by the river or a bit far and above the rishikesh town away from the crowd.
- Lastly what about buses from Delhi - Rishikesh and back ? Any volvo/delux options ? I want to take the last bus Friday night..
any website for this ?

You may tryout GMVN huts at Kaudiyala. I once stayed there without joining any rafting. It's on Ganga Banks, there is a beach kind of place just nearby.

Water is very clear and the sound of flowing water make a soothing background for sleeping.

However, it's toilet facilities are camp like.

Regarding buses ! No deluxe bus for Rishikesh. You may get a Delhi-Dehradun deluxe bus from ISBT and get down at Roorkee, from here Rishikesh will be another 1 1/2 hrs journey. Kaudiyala is further up and you can get there by jeep or buses going to Srinagar/Badri/Kedar.

One place, if you have the money which may fit your bill is Glass house on the ganges
http://www.neemranahotels.com/glasshouse/index.html.htm
Tarriff would be between 4k and 6 k...

Well in addition to the GMVN Kaudiayala you can stay in various white water rafting camps between shivpuri and Kaudiyala, opp GMVN Kaudiayala is Monal resorts but it is on the other side of the road

One of the best places is Forest Rest House in Haridwar Lalta Prasad

Agree there are, they start from Kashmiri Gate. These are AC and non AC. One starts about 9 am if I am not mistaken. Best if you ask at the enquiry at Kashmiri Gate.

Ok, I take that to mean KG proper, i.e. not from inside of the terminal building. I wonder why that wud be, since the terminal is not exclusively for DTC use (unless it's a parking shortage matter).

No I meant from within the terminal, sorry if my previous post sounded vague!!
But there are several and I have used them they start from within the terminal.

Not really vague - normally I wud have taken "KG" to mean the terminal itself. But New delhi's post confused me , in light of what UPSRTC's website says re buses on that route (which is confirmed by your statement - a/c and non-a/c), so I thought maybe they started from the road outside (some buses do - nayan and family almost missed their Shimla bus like that!)

Quite true, a lot of the bus walas do not take on passangers from within the terminal, if you do go in they will ask you to wait at the exit gate and ask you to board there. Don't know the reason for it, I have been shuttled around like that a couple of times and once got so annoyed that I created a scene and then they had to allow me to board the bus at the terminal!

I saw something similar happenihg on Holi day - was on a UP bus from Rampur to Haldwani (long story - basically disruption of schedules ex Delhi), and when we reached Rudrapur depot the driver and conductor were talking - "Andar mat jao, koi savari nahi hoga to faltu mein parchi katvani paregi".
Saving terminal charges. (didn't know there was such a thing).
Doesn't make sense in your examples though, since the buses were inside anyway.
