Moving to Noida
Hey people,
Spent some time lurking on Indiamike for a trip to India last year and found loads of useful info. So am now posting for some advice on an imminent trip. I will be moving to Noida to live and work for a year, wondering about the social aspect of living in Noida (nightlife, gyms, activities etc). Also the cost of living, I will be paid 60000rs p/m and wondering how feasible this is to live on (accom will have to be paid for from this), I dont intend to go splashing out. Managed to travel for 2 months last year on £500, but a breakdown of likely costs would be helpful, bills, food etc. Any input will be greatly appreciated, with this hoping to be the first posting of many. |

you can enjoy well with that money
Hi Paul
Welcome to India with the amount you mentioned , you can lead a very good life here in India A decent two room set would cost you ot more than 10,000 rs per month. And a decent one day meal not more than 100 per day, if you cook at your home. Average cost to move around in the city on govt us is 20 Rs from one end to other end, and on autorickshaw it wont be more than 200 Rs at on stretch for moven accross to farthest place within the city. You can enjoy a good indian meal in average resturant in not more than 500 bugs per person. i hope he above ives you clear idea ofthe things here -Praveen Last edited by capt_mahajan : May 7th, 2008 at 13:51. |

thanks for that praveen, has given me a better idea of the lifestyle i'll be able to achieve. Am I right in thinking the 10 month security deposit i've read about only refers to the south?

...a 10 month security deposit is not common in Delhi / NCR areas. Normally a 2 month deposit and 1 month advance rent is how it is structured and you should stick with that. |

Hi Paul,
You can live in Noida on Rs. 60,000/- month, but it won't be lavish. You can get a two bed-room flat on rent for about 15,000/- in a decent locality. Rs. 5,000/- for food, if you cook yourself. A movie and dinner for two will set you back by about 1000 bucks. Gym means another 1500-2000; and a night in a night-club for a couple - 2000-3000. The biggest problem with Noida is that public transport if almost non-existent, and you'll end up spending too much on cabs. \N |

well, i can tell you it will be lavish for indian standards, it's really good money for comfortable life in noida.
security deposit is usually 1-3 months in noida, i've never heard of ten, it would be good to have some locals that you trust help you arrange everything life in noida is good, maybe a little dull, it's great for a quiet family life but for wild parties i think u'll have to go to delhi ![]() |

Security deposit is usually two months' rent, plus one month's rent as the brokerage to the broker. BTW, Noida now boasts of Elevate, one of the most happening night spots in Delhi area. \N |

Hi Paul, I have been staying in Noida for the past 4 years
60000/month take home will afford a good lifestyle, though not lavish. Rent in a decent locality : 12000-14000 Household expenses(groceries/maid/electricity) : 15000 Movie with popcorn costs from 200-500(depending on what time you watch it, morning shows are cheaper). Dinner for 2 costs around 500 without drinks in okay sort of restaurants. Basically, apart from rent, for 25K you can enjoy a pretty decent lifestyle. but then everyones definition of luxury is different. However rest assured, you will not be found wanting for more with a little planning. PS: Noida has "zilch" public transport(unless you count rickshaws... how do you plan to commute?) Finally comes the breakdown for 2 people Summer electricity bill(with AC) : 4000(approx) Winters : 1000 Groceries : 15000(max) Maid : 1500 (Cook + cleaning) when I say 15000 I presume you will drink nestle cartoned milk and drink lots of cartoned juices, and buy lots of fruits etc.,

yeah, i'm not talking about the lavish life of Eddie Murphy in 'Out of Africa'
but you'll be more comfortable than most people, 60 000 would be a great salary for me here in Croatiai know about Elevate but the typical attitude of middle class Indians is that only 'bad or corrupt' people actually go to any parties which dont include their aunties & uncles anyway, im just talking from my experience... |

whoa monkeyqueen, which rock you hiding under. the world has moved on.
Many people go to discs like elevate, and not only corrupt and bad people. In Delhi/NCR night clubs are one of the most happening passtime. |

i'm not talking about me, we're quite liberated here in Croatia, i'm just talking about the things i've heard from ordinary people in Noida, most people i met aged between 25-30 lead double lives & hide everything from parents & relatives

I think you are keeping bad company. Most people I know here go to nightclubs without hiding.
