Mathura Hotels
Hey all,
Know of any recommended accomadation in Mathura? It's my first time going to india in December. I've looked at a couple but don't really know if the reviews are accurate. Just wondering if anyone can give any good suggestions. Thanks and cheers! |

I traveled through Mathura in 2004, we passed through and did not stay the night. Its a pilgrimage spot so I would imagine there are many hotels there catering to the Indian pilgrimage traveler.
I'm not sure what your comfort level is? Do you need a private toilet, need AC, willing to spend over 1000rs for a room, things like that? If you need all of the above (then you probably can afford to rent a taxi) I'd suggest only touring Mathura and staying in Agra or Gwalior? Otherwise you could rough it in Mathura. However I do remember seeing a couple nice 3 star hotels in that town, nothing fancy. |

You can also look for hotels in Vrindavan, just about 20 minutes away.
Sorry, I didn't stay there, so only know what's in the LP.

This link is useful
I realise the thread is old, but could be useful for potential travellers. Agra hotel looks like a solid bet, good location by the ghats. I might well be there next month so will report back if its good. |

The International Guesthouse next to the Janmasthan is the only reasonable low cost option in Mathura. They have one double-room with an air-cooler that they give to foreigners. It is in the area of Rs 200. Hotel Nepal does not exist. Otherwise only expensive upper class hotels exist there. But really there is hardly any reason to stay in Mathura; Vrindavan is the much better option and has many nice low-cost guest houses.
A nice place to stay is the guest house of Radha-Gopinath-Mandir which is behind the famous Radha-Raman Mandir. you get there by going outside of Radha-Raman external entrance to your right along the wall until you are on the opposite end of the half-circle. there you come to a large gate leading up to Radha-Gopinath Mandir. The Guest house is the oldest live-in house in Vrindavan, built in Haveli style, decorated with paintings outside, about 100 m from the entrance gate, to your right. The pujari family owning the temple complex used to give rooms for a donation. |
