Lucknow to Shravasti

I will be in Lucknow this October and was planning to hire a car with a driver for a day-trip to Shravasti. As Shravasti is about 180 km from Lucknow this should be feasible. What would a reasonable rate for this be?
Many thanks!

If you want to hire a taxi I think it will cost you around 3000 INR for the round trip. There are buses that you can take from Lucknow too.

Livinhimalayas that seems a lot for the distance, and even a whole day trip. Are prices more expensive in UP. If that is the case I think I'll be happy looking for a bus... or even autorickshaw?

Minimum charges for the entire day a max of 200 kms is 1500/- If you take it per km then about 8 - 9 per km.

Just around the corner from the said luxury hotel is the large and friendly Korean Monastery, where you can stay for free in very good basic rooms.

I have not traveled towards Lucknow on the roads, but I would assume that they look the same in terms of potholes, as does the road from Lumbini via Sunauli to Sravasti/Savatthi. Expect the worst in a public bus. Another option would be to go by train to Gonda, and from there to Balrampur also by train, then by Auto to Sravasti. If you do want to go by car, consider the option to travel on the National Highway Lucknow-Gorakhpur until Gonda, or an earlier turn towards Sravasti, or just accept the bumps from the direct route.

Thanks for that, the rate is a little higher than what I was paying in Madhya Pradesh (Rs 7) and that was higher than I'd found in the east and south. Cost may increase as one heads north?

Good info atala, thanks. I'll check out trains stopping at those railway stations. Although I'm probably not going to be around there long enough for a monastery stay, it's definitely worth keeping in mind if the plans shape up differently.

A lot also depends on your bargaining power.

Hi guys I am planning to go to Sravasti from Lucknow by taxi this sunday (2nd August, 2009). The approximate cost would be rs6 per kilometer, a total of about Rs 2200/-. In case anyone wants to come along on a share basis, drop a line or call me on 09473777822.

Red face share taxi is the cheapest

The cheapest way to travel from Lucknow to Sravasti is by share taxi. Just go to Riverview Colony beside the Gomti. There are a bunch of ambassador share taxis there. You can travel up to Bahraich in one of them. Then from Bahraich change to another share taxi for Gonda and get off at Sravasti enroute. A one way fare will not cost you more than Rs. 300. Hope this helps if you are on a tight budget. Tulsi
