Go to the Chowk and ask any one for direction to Tunda Miya.
bhool bhulaiyas is a maze of corridors and rooms where the Nawabs played hide & seek with his Bibis.

You dont need to know where to get the Tunde Kebabs...

Just ask anyone and everyone in Lucknow and you will be pointed in right direction.. ..I guess it is in Saharaganj..

Bhool Bhulaiya and Imambara are historical structures, made by nawabs for prayer and other uses...

thanks jyotir & shashank..
my mouth is already watering at the thought of the kebabs.

i'm known in my NYC circle for making yummy gelawati kebabs, but i can't wait to taste the real thing and compare it to my effort... and then try to duplicate it

The name is Galauti kabab. Tunde Miya is famous for his Shami Kababs.
If you happen to be in Delhi go to a small eatery called Aap ki khatir near Nizamuddin for the best Galauti kababs. These kababs should be served on tiny rotis as they are too delicately soft. For best results grind the meat along with some kidney fat.

really.. well actually gelawat means "tenderizer".. the gelawati kebab are tenderized in ground raw papaya.. i make them all the time, they are melt in the mouth delicious. i have never heard of grinding the meat with kidney fat. doesn't sound too appetising, lol.. sometimes it's better not to know what goes in your food!

gelauti kebab, shami kebab.. you're gonna kill me with this food talk at 1 AM

When I was told Lucknow was famous for it's chikan, I was thinking of something different when my father's associate was telling me about Lucknow. I bought myself a nifty kurta/pyjama in navy blue. I lost it now, but I did get a few looks in it while in Sydney wearing it around.

Tundey Kababs is at the Saharaganj Food Court as well as at the original place in one of the small lanes in the Ameenabaug (?) market area. There is also another small place just opposite the Lucknow Club called Shekawat which also serves excellent food, just the ambience of the place is not too good but then we are talking food out here not the five star ambience, right?!!! Then there is another good restaurant at Hotel Sagar International called Chote Nawab which does the local cuisine pretty well. Brings back fond memories of all the good food I had for a whole month out there!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

Then there is a whole stretch of small restaurants that serve biryanis and kababs in a lane near Hotel Gemini International called Tulsi Theatre lane. Lots of places here where you can sample the local fare at cheap prices too.

Cheers,
Aadil.

And what about the sweets sold at Ram Ashrey? The only place to get the real Pista Burfee. It is said that the water drawn from the ancient well belonging to the Asrey family gives the sweets its taste.
Murgh Kali meerch is also an Awadhi speciality. The Dum Pukht cuisine is unique.

Lots of places that sell Chikan kurtis and other stuff too. Try the Sewa Chikan shops which are at many locations all over Lucknow. Then there are a few markets that do just chikan work like Ameenabaug near the Lucknow railway station. There are also many fancy shops with high end stuff at similar prices too!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.
