Also try Sekhawati for some of the similar fare (kababs and biryanis) and if you want to eat at a nice place then try the Chote Nawab Restaurant or even the Tundey Kababs at the PVR food court. Then there is a whole row of good and cheap eating places in the Tulsi Theatre lane near Hotel Gemini.
Cheers, Aadil.

Lucknow
I thought I would start a thread on visiting Lucknow. I went to Lucknow 30 years ago - same day visit from Kanpur - and plan to visit there in August 2008. It seems wonderful. Here is a link to some pictures of the city.
http://www.shunya.net/Pictures/North...ow/Lucknow.htm India has a lot of wonderful tourist destinations that seem to attract a lot fewer tourists but are really wonderful. I would put Lucknow in among them. Last edited by Dilliwala : Oct 30th, 2008 at 05:29. Reason: merged thread |

I went to Lucknow in 2004 and had a very good time. Some of the best food I've had in India was in Lucknow. Did all the touristy things such as visiting Ambedker Park, etc. I will go back there someday, but not on my next trip to India.

Every time I start trying to make more space in my itinerary, my eye goes towards eliminating Lucknow. And then I hear Yet Another Story About How Under-rated Lucknow Is, and put it back in...
It better be good, guys. It better be good. |

There is a certain charm to this town (of more than a million) that there is no denying. Lucknow has some of the best sunsets I've seen. Sun setting in the west behind the river in the rusty orange sky. Beautiful. But hey! I don't speak for all when I say Lucknow is a town to visit. If you don't like it, don't blame me. If you do like it, you owe me 5 beers!

Well Lucknow is only 284 km west from Varanasi. There is a special Varanasi - Jammu Tawi Express that leaves Varanasi at 14:25 and gets to Lucknow at 18:10 (only 3 hrs 45 minutes) and has plenty of seats in both 3AC and SL for the next 6 days at least. The cost is only Rs 169 for SL.
I would include Lucknow in any visit I make to Varanasi. |

I'll be there in the middle of Dec. I've been trying to decide what I'm going to do for the two days I am there. Any suggestions?

The old muslim quarter has some fascinating Mughal architecture. If you are not into that there are lots of yuppie bars and western style fast food chains ...

Lucknow and Hyderabad are two cities that do not figure so much on the itineraries but both are very interesting places.
I too recommend the Kababs of Tunde Miya in Lucknow. Lucknow is also famous for Chikan work. The Chikan kurtas, Sarees are really wonderful. |

The Chikan work is simply amazing, we shopped a lot, got few kurtas for my brother..they look awesome...and a salwar kameez for my mom... Especially wonderful were the Bhool Bhulaiyas and Imambara... Btw..all this things apart..but Lucknow is what it is for its culture, hospitality and grace..!! |
