Fatehpur Sikri without Agra
Hi everyone,
Many many searches both on net and this site suggest that one has to go to Agra first if wanting to reach Fatehpur Sikri from Delhi by bus or train. I see it is possible to reach Fatehpur Sikri railway station from Gonda on the Avadh Express, which is fine if visiting Shravasti first. But not from much closer stations 2-5 hours away such as Jaipur, Mathura, Gwalior and the Delhi area. Does any one know if this really is the situation? Can a direct trip Delhi-Fatehpur Sikri be possible, other than by taxi? Or is Agra mandatory? ![]() |

Perhaps adding the words "is there a direct train" to the title might attract some of our train gurus?
I'm not that familiar with the train system, but I do know that Agra is the nearest sizeable town to Fatehpur Sikri, which although it has a railway station, is a very small town so might not have a direct train from Delhi. I think the reason that so many people suggest travelling via Agra, apart from the obvious Taj Mahal thing, is that the Shahatabdi Express is so convenient, and Fatehpur Sikri is only a short drive (about 25 miles) from Agra. Good luck finding out about the trains! ![]()

Thank you for your reply, Haylo, I should have been less terse with the thread title. Hopefully someone will know re. buses. There is no direct train.

It's just that from the title, I was expecting the thread to be about whether or not it is a good idea to visit Fatehpur Sikri instead of the Taj Mahal (I was going to say yes) rather than it being a question about how to travel there. A bus from Agra looks easy, but it seems that you really want to avoid the place completely. |

That's right Haylo, I want to avoid Agra. Just passing through the traffic-congested mess there from Gwalior to Mathura this year was more than enough...
