Diwali, Pushkar Camel Fair, Varanasi, Mumbai
I'm getting serious about taking the plunge into India this fall/winter. I'm looking at visiting Agra for the Taj Mahal, Mumbai, Goa, and Varanasi. I would probably have 18 days. It would be possible to be in India for both Diwali (October 17) and the Pushkar Camel Fair (October 30 - November 2). I am pretty sure those dates are accurrate or at least reasonably close.
It would appear that mid-October would be near the end of Monsoon Season. Would I run into Monsoon in these places at that time of year? Does my proposed itinerary have any major flaws? Given the places I'm looking at visiting, where would be a good place to experience Diwali? Any insight will be appreciated greatly. (Moderator note: Hi CandlePower - your other identical post has been deleted - please don't post the same thing in more than one place - it confuses us )Last edited by Kingstonian : Jul 14th, 2009 at 18:31. |

Next, Goa and Bombay followed by the Pushkar fair. If you leave out the Pushkar fair you can have a better itinerary than this. There's not much to see or do in the camel/cattle fair anyway. |

Thanks Indizen. I had read that the Pushkar Mela was kind of a special thing. If I did leave that out, do you have any suggestions for what might be good to do or see otherwise?

If you do not want to miss out on Pushkar Fair and Varanasi is a must on your visit why not visit Varanasi during Dev Diwali which would be on 2nd Nov. You would have to reach Varanasi on 1st Nov or latest by 2nd Nov in the morning so that you could be fresh for the evening celebrations.

If you can fly into Delhi and out of Mumbai, you can plan your trip in a better way.
