Delhi-Saharanpur - which road to take
Delhi-Saharanpur - which road to take
Saharanpur falls on the way from Delhi to Dehradun. The traditional route is Delhi - Ghaziabad - Meerut - Muzzaffaranagar - Saharanpur, as shown in this map. I hear the condition of the road on this route isn't very good and then there's the question of security as this falls in the state of UP. Do you know about this route? Can you recommend an alternative? There are two, I could think of...
My old [1982] road map atlas shows a parallel but slightly shorter route Delhi - Baghpat - Baraut - Shamli - Saharanpur. Is the road any better?
Would you recommend taking Delhi - Karnal highway and then taking a right somewhere around Kurushetra? I suppose there's a connecting road that takes you to Saharanpur. This would be a slightly longer route but the road until Kurushetra is excellent. What do you think?

Having referred to a 1999 road map, I suggest the following:
From Kurukshetra turn right to Yamunanagar, along a "major road", via Ladwa. Distance is 48 kms. From Yamunanagar head to Saharanpur (32 kms.) along another "major road".

Thanks Shimla. We took the Shamli route and the road for the most part was better than we expected with very sparse traffic and few Dhabas [only a 5 km stretch between Shamli - Saharanpur wasn't good]. I recommend this road if you're travelling during the day.
We took a much longer route on our way back last night because of security considerations. We went to Rourkee first and then took to Delhi via Meerut. It added a good 50-60 km to our journey. I wish we knew about the road connecting Yamunanagar - Karnal or the one you mention. Learnt about both these roads only later. Delhi-Karnal-Ambala is an excellent 6 lane highway and of course travelling in Haryana much safer as well.

Dear sir i want to share that road from shamli to sahranpur is veeeeerry bad plz take shamli to jallabad trun left towards gangoh, nakud to saharanpur that road is much much better. Thanx
I agree the patch from Saharanpur to Nanauta is too bad... there are only big pits (big enough to swallow a two wheeler) on the road and there is no sign of metalled road anywhere....

Took this road last week from saharanpur to Delhi (The highway via rourkee was blocked for the kavadi yatris).
It was a hell ... the road was practically non-existent for 60% of the time .... full of ditches.
And it's supposed to be a state highway. Increased our travel by 4-5 hours.
Found only one decent hotel on the way at saharanpur. Nothing else.

Better route.
The best way as i followed in my Visit to saharanpur this month was
Delhi-Panipat-Karnal-Indri-Ladwa-Radaur-Yamunanagar-Saharanpur(approx 220 kms)
Karnal to Ladwa is approx 35 kms and about 10 kms of road is damaged. But in all its the shortest way to Ladwa.
Otherwise you can take Karnal-Pipli-Ladwa road where there is no bad or damaged road at all.
Delhi-Karnal-Pipli-Ladwa-Radaur-Yamunanagar-Saharanpur(Approx 240kms)
Both the routes are safe as most of the distance is travelled in Haryana and only 20 km stretch lies in UP.
Both route takes approx the same time and one can easily reach from Delhi to saharanpur or vice-versa in a 4 hour journey.

Route to Saharanpur from Delhi/Noida
Hi All,
The best and the shortest route to take for Saharanpur from Delhi is via Meerut-Mujaffarnagar-Jhabrera-Chudiyala-Saharanpur.
Till Jhabrera you guys will be travelling on NH from Jhabrera Police Station there is a road opposite going towards the Chudiyala village take that and keep going straight on it..it will cross through villages but the road is excellent and you will end up in the heart of SRE near DM residence !!!

Hi guys, any latest recommendation on the road from Delhi to Saharanpur and back? I plan to go on Sunday morning and back by Sunday evening. Is it doable? More important, is it comfortable?
Best possible road route to Saharanpur n back..
People travelling to this route may find the road condition very pathetic and actually you should not call it a road even, suppose to be holes and big holes.Your car will have an impact at last.
I travelled on this route on 20 may 2012.If you want best road. I would suggest take this road.
My mileage on esteem car came out to be 14.7 km /lt. covered area in 5hrs but road is awesomely smooth.
Return: Saharanpur to Delhi
Sre-Sarsawan -Yamunagar-state highway 6 Raduar-Ladwa
From :Ladwa 2 route go one
Route 1
Ladwa-state highway 7-indri-GT road Karnal national highway no 1 Delhi is 173 by this route. But like 10-15 km road is bad actually under construction.
Route 2
Ladwa- continue on state highway 6 -Kurkshetra- here you join GT road National highway 1. This is little longer
Benefits of this route
1> faster and broader and smooth
2) mileage wise excellent
good dhabhas and restaurant
toll was 25 and 5 Rs on this route till delhi.
While coming to Saharanpur
I took gurgaon-muradnagar-modinagar-merrut-muzafnagar-purkazzhi-jabarhera-saharanpur
But avoid this road
Reason:
1) Road till Meerut very congested lot of traffic.
2) Meerut toll traffic clearance very slow.
3) You may get unexpected very heavy joker block jam in Purkazzi even you intend to travel to roorkee or dheradun.and no policeman to escort at this location. Pathetic condition jam can last up to go to 2-3 hrs.
4) Road from deoband as well from Purkazzi both pathetic towards Saharanpur 40 km stretch is bad. And no proper sign boards
5)Not much of hotels except you find MacDonald’s and Halidram just as you cross Meerut bypass..
Of course do not take Delhi Baghpat Shamli road --its hell of road...
Think wise because vehicle is yours AND fuel is expensive. But maintence cost more...
Thanks

Hey Guys
I plan to visit saharanpur next week, and planning to take following familiar route.
I would be taking my car for first time on any highway after 7 months of wait.
(1)Gurgaon-Delhi-meerut-muzaffarnagar-deoband-sharanpur.
(2)Gurgaon-Delhi-meerut-muzaffarnagar-roorkee-sharanpur.
I plant to start early in morning at 5.15 AM from Gurgaon.
I have frequently traveled on delhi haridwar route on state run buses, and find route between muzaffarnagar and roorkee a bit congested and unsafe since its single lane. Roorkee to saharanpur road was again not in good shape when I traveled two years ago.
Has anyone recently traveled on road from Muzzafarnagar to sharanpur via deoband
This route will save me lot of time provided its good and smooth.
I also had once traveled from saharanpur to Gurgaon via Panipat, karnal and found roads extremely good, but distance seems to be longer.
