If you are coming from Kolkata and your destination is Vrindavan via Agra, you do not need to go to Delhi, but change trains at Tundla, and then cross over via Agra to Mathura. alternative would be to take a car from Tundla directly. Or take the Toofan express (which friends called the TooSlow Express
, because it has many stops), but that train takes you directly to Mathura from Howrah, which is a benefit. Then you can visit Agra on a day trip from Vrindavan (50km).
Check other threads here for inexpensive accomodation in Vrindavan, i.e. Mandir guest houses.

Hi Atala, ur post is really veyr informative, I am planning a trip for my inlaws, please if you can guide me what to take frist from agra, should I take mathura or vrindavan, I want them to visit govardhan too,,pls guide
Much depends on the time you have for this visit. If you have never been there, it comes as a surprise how far the distances between places are in Braj. Vrindavan is about 10 km north of Mathura, so coming from Agra you would naturally visit Mathura first. Two or three hours would be enough for Mathura. Plan more time (if possible a few days, or at least an evening and a morning) for Vrindavan to get that highly charged devotional energy of the old part of town, around Radha-Raman Mandir.
Here is info on what to see and how to proceed in the old part of Vrindavan:

The bookstore mentioned is in Loi Bazar, in the center of town, towards Radha-Damodar Mandir. A good place for info about guesthouses in the area.
Beware of the monkeys in Vrindavan which steal your glasses right off your face.
Will monkeys steal my glasses in Vrindavan?
Govardhan is 28 kms from Vrindavan. You get there best by private car, via Radha-Kund.
Info here, also for guest-houses in Vrindavan, although I recommend to stay away from the Raman Reti area where Iskcon is, and preferably stay in the old part of town, around the old mandirs:

A Guest-house in the old part of town (certainly a bit more expensive now, as the date of the following post is from 2007):
Place to stay Vrindavan
Beware of the Pandas in Govardhan when you approach Manasi Ganga. They are really just gundas out for your money, never satisfied with whatever you give as donation for their pujas. Best would be not to go into Govardhan town at all, but see or circumambulate the part of Govardhan hill away from the town.
If you have time, you might want to go to Barsana, 20 km from Govardhan, direction Delhi. It takes about an hour and a half (up and down) to climb the steps and see the temple on top of the hill. A beautiful and contemplative atmosphere compared to busy Govardhan.

For Krishna-Bhaktas it is relevant to know that the original deities of Vrindavan were actually moved to Jaipur at the time of the Muslim invasion, which is why you might want to consider a visit to Jaipur too. The royal Govindaji mandir in Jaipur is a real treat, as is also the more quiet Radha-Gopinath Mandir there, with exquisite architecture and art-work. Buses to Jaipur leave from infront of Govinda Mandir in Vrindavan, cars with drivers who know their ways in Jaipur available at Iskcon (see above Iskcon-link for rates). Jaipur is 230 kms from Vrindavan.
