Ayodhya ...

I'll be doing a stop at Lucknow and Allahbhad in Jan and was wondering whether Ayodya is worth a stop-over. It is a slight detour but am not too sure if its worth a shot. What is the availablilty of 2* or 3* type of accomodations in this place.

I've never been to Ayodhya, but I'm planning to go during my trip this summer. My impression is that there's not a whole lot going on there, but one of my primary academic interests is the influence of religion on South Asian politics, so it will be really interesting for me. I figure it will be worth the trip simply to talk to locals and hear their take on everything that's happened there.

I've got two guides, Footprint and the Rough Guide. They both say that there aren't many places to stay in Ayodhya itself, and that most people go as a day trip from Faizabad. Every place listed in both guides to be in the 500 rupees or below range
