Animal and snake charmers?
Hello all, i was just wondering in a general sort of a way if anyone has seen any Madari (animal charmers) or Sapera (snake charmers) around these days? I've been noticing fewer and fewer and am just sort of wondering if they are all hiding somewhere.

indeed
Ah, that is true. I believe it has been illegal since sometime in the 70's, and yet, one still sees them from time to time I believe, albeit with less frequency than even a year or two ago in my experience. Anyone else noticing them less or at all?

Why were they prohibited? Too dangerous?

Animal Charming is new to me ! =-/
snake charming is good, i used to hold some water snakes when i was the mogli kinda kid..snakes are actually good but slimy, Indian King Cobra has the sharpest senses and it really not easy playing around with it, so they have to cut their fangs. |

Do see the snake charmers now and then they do not do their routine like they used to but you can find them sitting around most Shiva temples on Mondays with their baskets of snakes. The madaris ... bear as well as monkeys have certainly disappeared. The last tiem I saw one was about 14 years ago.

yuk! the very thought of holding a snake gives me the creeps. I would rather let them slither along where ever they were going...

It seems that snakes are deaf. We were told this by a government snake catcher. They sense vibration, so know if something is close, but they cannot hear music.
There is nothing creepy about holding a snake --- but we have been taught so much to be afraid that it is hard to let go of that! |

Although the metting is a problem. Reptiles or spiders dont make good pets. Birds are good too. parrots seem like fun. Have you heard of Minah birds? They are native to India and speak a lot. they are black like crows but smaller. |
