Water sports in Rishikesh? Or Har-ki-dun/Govind?

I have 3-4 days free and was thinking what to do with them. Rishikesh seems like an interesting place. I have heard there are water sports facilities there. There is also some mention of Kaudiyala and shivpuri near rishikesh in this regard. So where should one stay in Rishikesh? Or in Shivpuri or Kaudiayla? Which is good hotel in Shivpuri or Kaudiayala?

Which is the good operator for water sports? Or should I go to Joshimath?

How about Govind Wildlife sanctuary?

Any suggestions will be most welcome.

You have water rafting in Rishikesh. Most of the agents (?) start off from Kaudiyala and thereabouts.Kaudiyala is 25 kms off Rishikesh.ONce you have hooked up with a company for the rafting, they might provide accomodations. They usually set up camps from the take-off point. You might want to ask around though...

Thumbs up Har-Ki-Doon Trek

Have done the Har-ki-doon trek. Your info is mostly correct.

The so-called water sports facility at Mori will not be upto Western Standards. Not even upto the watered down "Indian Standards" of Rishikesh.

All trekking places are beautiful. Depends on your likes. Your time-slot, your no-of-days available, most importantly, budget. Also most Indian treks barring four/five are NON-tea-house treks. This means you will have to hire guides/porters etc. (not for Har ki doon, though.... but maybe for your other choices). Don't know why, but most foreigners are allergic to guided treks. They would rather do the Nepalese tea-house variety. This keeps trekking routes in India free from tourist hordes, relatively speaking. Youth Hostels Assn of India conducts Har-ki-doon treks every year at ridiculously low prices. Read link below:
