Valley of Flowers in August

Hello everybody,

I was planning on visiting the Valley of Flowers in Mid August. But I have been advised not to travel to Joshimath due to risk of landslides in August. I am wondering if this is really true. I look forward to your views. thanks

Monsoon time is the best time to visit the Valley of Flowers. Yes land slides do take place. The road to Badrinath via Joshimath is a very vital link and army bulldozers are parked near land slide prone stretches to clear the road asap.

It is better to make provision for at least one extra day in the trekking schedule in Himalaya during rainy season to adjust for possible delays on account of landslides.

I fully agree with you Sadanand. Drinking water & some provisions should also be reserved in case you get stranded at some odd place. I would also be careful about choosing the right shoes. You will have to walk thru slush and on glaciers. A good & light rain coat is essential. If you are traveling by public bus you may be asked to stow your luggage on top of the bus. Carry thick water proof sheets to cover your stuff to prevent it from getting wet.
