Uttarankhand accomodation in June??
Hello. I am travelling to Delhi in late May and will then be heading North, firstly to Haridwar/Rishikesh. I understand that it will be peak season for local tourists, and am a little concerned that maybe I should book my accomodation ahead. I would appreciate any expert advice as to whether this will be necessary, as generally I like to keep my travel plans as flexible as possible. I'll be staying in mostly budget accomodation. Thanks.

Well where are you headed? Is it only Haridwar and Rishikesh or even beyond? As a rule I would suggest that in this seasopn you better book acco at HDW/ Rishikesh and any other place which may be on the char dham yatra route and also major hill stations like Mussorie etc.

Hi,
I belong to hardwar and have been brought up in the Uttaranchal. Regarding your concern in Hardwar, if you are looking to stay in a specific Hotel or lodging then yes, booking should be done as it would be the peak char-dham season. Booking is required for Raahi Motel opp. Railway Station its a Govt Rest House, then there is one more rest House on the Banks of Ganga its called tourist Bunglow they are usually full as all the State orgainsed tour keep their guest there. If you just need a clean room to sleep then you have ample places, near Vishu Ghat, Harki pauri, Jwalapur (though bit far), Jasa Ram Road, Shiv- Murti - I bet Hardwar has so many hotels in the city that you would never be roomless and that too below INR 1000. BTW how many days do u intend to stay in Hardwar. If you are coming in daylight in Hardwar - No problem in finding one, my friend got a Room Double Bed in Hotel Prince at Jassa Ram Road at Rs. 700 on 26.05.2007. Rishikesh that way has lesser number and few numbers of good accomodation. Would like to give you some more info on that later through a friend of mine who is in Rishikesh. lemme know if you have other doubts as well. Welcome to India & Have a Great Time |

Like Vidugoyal said, Haridwar should be no problem. And Rishikesh is only an hour from there.
If by some chance you dont get accomodation in Rishikesh, head off to Shivpuri, which is a small village 12km from Rishikesh. It is the starting point for riverrafting during season. There are bound to be some camps which are still operational trying to take advantage of the tourist season. There are also loads of ashrams in Rishikesh, where you can ask for accomodation. I dont really see a problem as far as Rishikesh is concerned. |

Char Dham
Quote:
I too will be in India from the 17th of May for 2 months. I am heading north to do the Char Dham Yatra and some trekking. I am keen to know if your journey to India is similar to mine and if we will share a common path? If yes then i am looking to share taxies. Busses in summer can be very difficult! A bit about myself, i am 29 Male who has lived in London for the most of his life. I am originaly from India. I have recently quit my job in London and I am taking some time out to travel India. Uttarakhand is on top of my list. It has some good treks(I have never trekked before) and most importantly it has 4 main temples that are veyr close to my heart and I would like to visit them. My main purpose to travel in India is for spiritual reasons. I am not religious but I really connect to Ancient Hindu temples and historical sites. If you are interested in sharing taxies in Uttarakhand then pls let me know. You can PM me and tell a bit about yourself. Regards, Sumit |
