Uttaranchal for a week...ideas!
Going to Uttaranchal for a week (or so) in second week in November but not wanting to travel too far in due to timing. I am unsure where to go but have a few ideas i.e. Mussourrie. Looking for a bit of "out there" and some nice hilly backdrop but not too busy and some chilling out (i know that may be difficult however). Any of you good people have any suggestions?
Cheers Much |

Mussoorie is an excellent place to visit, as is Nainital.
The second week of November is Diwali and most of the hill-towns will be crowded. If you wish to avoid the crowds, then the choices are Lansdowne in Uttaranchal or Kasauli and Solan in Himachal Pradesh.

Lansdowne is basically a cantonment and gets few visitors. Certainly worth a visit.
You won't have problems weatherwise in mid-November at any of the hill-towns, as you have already mentioned that you do not want to travel too far in. |

Uttranchal
I agree with Shimla, Lansdowne is a nice small hill station which houses Kumaon Regiment HQ, worth a visit and stay for a day or two.
Equally nice place is Dhanaulti (which is part of Garhwal, i.e towards Mussourie), much greener, little higher and far less crowded than Mussourie. It should be reachable in Nov. both from Rishikesh and from Mussourie Don't try to cover both the palces in one visit, the connectivity (hill route) between Lansdowne to Dhanaulti is not very good even in summers. |

If you plan to go to Kumaon region of Uttaranchal, do plan a visit to Binsar, Mukteshwar. These are beautiful secluded hill stations offering stunning views of himalayas. Both these places close to Almora.

Nainital
In Nainital, it is tourist off season in November, so it should be peaceful around that time if you visit. Good luck!

You Can add Champa too your list. To say the least entire Tehri Gharwal region is beautiful. The roads to all these places like Lansdowne , Champa,Mussourie are narrow. You can go for a small trekking too from Dehradun to Mussourie. Morning u start from Dehradun and reach Mussourie by afternoon and have a hearty lunch at 'Rice Bowl' and the see aorund Mussourie.
