UP Elections: For all travellers

Hi Guys,

Thought this information would be helpful for all those who plan to travel in Uttarpradesh in next couple of month.

These dates would be treated as holidays in respective districts, everything would be closed, so watch out.. no buses, no taxies on these days. so watch out..

Polling would be held in 62 assembly constituencies in 13 districts on April 7 in the first phase while other phases are scheduled on April 13, 18, 23, 28, May 3 and May 8.

Just to add......

If you're in northern UP at the time of the elections and you get a feeling something isn't right, head to the safety of your hotel.

There have been many problems in the area in the last few months (and few years), though tourists are never targeted, and the problems are not normally in tourist areas.

Just be aware that problems can happen, and are more likely to happen at election times.

Let me add that political rallies do never disturb the tourist directly, but in case one happen to the rally sites that might disturb you wether locals or tourists such as traffic problems, road diversions etc.

Road Closures

And check to see about road closures due to UP elections!

On 18 April we could not enter UP from Uttarakhand -- tried both from Rudrapur and Kashipur. The roads were closed for elections and no matter of begging and pleading, showing diplomatic ID, etc helped. So, had to wait until after 5 pm when the roads were re-opened.
